it really is worth doing,i agree with sheppo,i can't recall how long it took, but definately not half a day,as i'm sure i would remember that.
maybe a couple of hours tops, but i do remember seeing, some great sights,on the way.if i never did the delta,i wouldv'e definately thought,i had missed out on something!

Take a look at Hotels-in-Vietnam.com there's some information on there. Counting down now just over 7week's can't wait :D. The first thing you will see when going in to land is the thousands of bike's you'll be amazed at what they carry on them.

thanks Sheppo- haven't come across that site. 6 weeks and 5 days and we arrive in Saigon!
I have 4 days in Saigon next month( leave evening of the 4th). We have 2 full day tours planned. One to the Cu Chi tunnels and to Cao Dai Temple. The second day is to the Mekong Delta which includes My Tho town and Ben Tre village.
The other two days we have plenty to see in Saigon itself! Places such as the Reunification Palace, War Museum, Post Office, Notre Dam Cathedral, temples galore, Ben Thanh and Binh Tay markets. Anything I've missed out? Or does anyone have any comments or tips please?
Restaurants which have been recommended
Vietnam House, Lemongrass, Hoi An, Restaurant 13, Bo Tung Xeo, Quan An Ngon
Won't have time for them all!
Bars recommended
Saigon, Saigon
Rex rooftop bar
Underground Bar
Apocalypse Now bar
( we might get round all of those!
)
Anyone been any of these?

Hi Fiona
You will have four busy days, I wouldn't advise trying to fit anything else in though I think you have pretty much got everything that there is to see on your list. I was in Saigon in 2003 for three days and saw all the sights that you are planning to see though after visiting Saigon I went on to the Mekong Delta for four nights before catching a boat to Cambodia. Because of the extreme heat and humidity I got really tired and really welcomed a dip in the hotel pool at the end of the day. I don't remember the names of any of the bars but do remember having an excellent meal at Lemongrass and have a feeling I had a meal at Vietnam House. I can't remember having a bad meal during my visit. I would like to return to Vietnam and see the north of the country some time.
Hope you enjoy your trip, I'm feeling quite envious

Our 2 day excursions start at 8am and finish at 7pm. I think we will be exhausted. That is after being in Hong Kong as well. We love Bangkok and flights to Saigon are cheap so if we like Ho Chi Minh City( must remember to call it that!) we will no doubt return.

Looking forward to your report Fiona, please may I ask how much were your flights from Bangkok to Saigon - may visit there next year. thanks.
hi Shirley
I can't actually remember. It was about £100 but that is one way. We go from Hong Kong to Saigon to Bangkok and then home. I originally had a cheaper flight with Air France but they pulled the flight.
