Passiontravel did you return home from santorini on the tuesday 24th, we returned that date, to the east midlands after a 2 hour wait outside the airport to check in.
We all really enjoyed the break and found Santorini a wonderfull place, lots of great nights in Kalamerias restaurant and found the laterna good value with Kleftico at just 5.50 euros.
Wife has now got me cooking staffado and making tzatsiki for supper. got great recepies here. http://www.greek-recipe.com
worth a look if you fancy making a taste of greece at home
Chris
Ive always fancied Santorini mostly because it is so lovely to look at and I love to draw while im away lots of places to sketch and paint, but was put off by prices, maybe I will rethink now, thanks for the honest info
Yes we returned on 24th on the Manchester flight, the last one out after only one hour outside cooking in the sun. What must it be like in August? It is time that the Greeks realised that an airport is something more than a runway and a shed. I am still missing the great food at taverna Xania and in twenty years of visiting Greece I have never known prices as low as Perissa. I shall be back to Greece in 5 weeks, this time to Pelion region where I know the prices are higher and the terminal building is a shed.
We like the east midlands as it is about a 1 hour drive away and is sufficinetly supplied with a coffe shop/snack bar and paper shop.
Santorini top island, perissa top resort, Kosmar top company I think that says it all.
We are thinking of going to Santorini next year. Can anyone recommend any good hotels or nice apartments not too busy but near enough not to be too quiet

Hi, we're not sure where we want to stay but don't want to be paying anymore than £1500 really, thanks
as you have not specified area/village then i cant really help. only general info i can give is that most of accommodation in the main town of Fira or generally the clif side of the island more expensive. if you go for east side of the island which also has beaches then more likely to find cheaper ones. i have a couple of offices that do Santorini in my mind but not sure if its ok to put their website here as it might be considered advertising.
Thanks.Think I need to do abit more research first
The bus service on the island is first class, most are new coaches and they run on time!
Take a look at olympicholidys.co.uk They have a good selection of properties in Santorini.
i agree with intervoice about perissa we stayed there 4 years ago now good place for your holidays
Lots of places and things to see and do. Felt really chilled out at the end of the holiday.
Quite fancy Perissa.Any recommendations out there please? Im far from posh but am abit particular....I said particular not peculiar!?!?!
We came back last night from Perissa (well Perivolos actually - which is a bit further up the beach) this was our 4th time and we have stayed at Smaragdi (do an internet search - they have a website etc!) every time it is really great there. You can also book with Kosmar for there .
If the hotels aren't reviewed on this website (and if not why not!) try tripadvisor.com or holidaysuncovered.com
Hope that helps!

Thanks for those Tinka.Ive had a look and they're fantastic. Will definately be showing hubby when he comes home.
Hmm, thought you might like them Kleftiko! ..some of them are actually offered by UK tour operators, some you may find in specialist brochures for Greece Others you can book direct online or using a site like Expedia.I'm definitely into the online revolution and saving money!
Have been reading all the replies for Santorini and feeling v nostalgic! We went 2 years ago to Hotel Zorzis with First Choice, who no longer go there. We have phoned and faxed the hotel this year to book and can`t get any response from them. It`s in Perissa and is a lovely, small, basic and clean hotel with a fab pool. We have given up trying to book now and have booked Naxos instead, but has anyone been there this year?
If you do go to Santorini be sure to get the boat to the Caldera and then across to Thirasia, absolute peaceful paradise! Have a meal in one of the tavernas on the front and while away an afternoon. Am desparate to go back!
Details and pictures on Santorini have now been updated at
Are thinking of Santorini for next year, would appreciate advice as follows:-
when is best time to visit (don't like it too hot or crowded)
which would be best areas for our taste (enjoy good food and local life)
Bearing in mind previous question, any hotel recommendations ( not too cheap, but not too expensive - like comfort & quiet)
All replies will be appreciated
Roger
