We are thinking of going to Sarawak later this year staying at Kuching, Batang Ai and Damai Beach. The hotels look great on the official Hilton sites but.......
Any advice or guidance would be welcome

Check the weather. November to March is monsoon season in Sarawak.
i stayed at the holiday inn damai lagoon hotel there a couple of years ago - its the sister hotel & near to the holiday inn damai beach hotel. i presume the hilton at damai beach must be nearby .went there as a cheapie hol with a girlfriend when i was living in perth west oz. its a beautiful place. we went to the damai beach hotel a couple of times for dinner & it looked good & a couple we met there were very happy. the damai lagoon was beautiful & was rated 3 star in our brochure but was like a 5 star,( you'll find that in most places in asia the standards of hotels are a different league compared to the med & other places you'll go much much higher!!!!!) borneo is a great place for relaxing & is beautiful, if your into animals, fauna ,flora etc i cant recommend it highly enough. i loved lying by the pool watching the most amazing butterflies float by...... and you cant miss a visit to the orang utan sanctuary (just outside kuching). kuching when we went( 2001) there was still the sort of place where tourists were a novelty & all the shops we went into the owners/assistants were fascinated by us & wanted to know all about us. its not the place if your looking for loads of bars etc cos its just not there but a fantastic place to relax in. we did however spent a few days parked in a basic open bar/resteraunt right on the river in kuching watching the world go buy & i loved it. the hotels t damai beach are about 1/2 hr from kuching but dont let that put you off taxis are very cheap. if your looking for a good hotel i cant recommend the holiday inn damai lagoon highly enough you dont need the hilton name in asia to get a wonderful place & after staying in the singapore hilton a few years ago & the holiday inn plaza singapore i actually found the holiday inn much more luxurious than the hilton. dont let the 'holiday inn' name put you off theyre in a totally different league to holiday inns over here in the uk.
we went in september & im not sure what monsoon would be like but quite often in tropical places monsoon means it pours for a couple of hours every day but is still goddam hot & dries out very quickly. ( found that in bali when i was there in monsoon season & its right near borneo so things are prob the same)
