I was thinking of having another holiday in mid-October. I've already visited Malta, Cyprus and the Canary Islands so I fancy somewhere different. I would be staying in the northern part of the island due to my flight being from Speke. Sassari looks a good place to stay in terms of it being a large town but haven't done much research into this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Alghero would be the best place to go in October. It is beautiful old town with a gorgeous beach. Everything stays open all year, whereas you will find Sassari is a little quiter at that time of year, the island is very seasonal.
Alghero is very traditional still in the old town, little cobbled streets with nice shops and wonderful restaurants. Also a good base for exploring the island. I have been to Sardinia 13 times now, all over the island and Alghero is my favourite place for a holiday. Definately visit the North East though as although it will be quite you can drive over and see the most stunning coves and scenery.
