alaninwales,

You'll be fine. It would be a no-no in Cuba because of the GPS element, but you'll be fine in America.

I know it may be a stupid question but you do have the USA maps installed ??
Only asking as when we were putting mine in the car last November a guy came up asking for help as he could not get his working, turned out he only had maps of UK / Europe and did not know he had to buy US maps seperate.
Plus be prepared for it to take a long time to lock on to a signal the first time you turn it on after arriving, dont think it is broke, it is just looking in the wrong place and takes far longer to scan, will be fine after that.

Yes, we do have access to one with US maps on!
Thanks for the advice about the signal; I'm an impatient so and so and I would have been moaning like hell!

Alan

HI guys

we used our satnav whilst in orlando, and it was a godsend, it went astray a couple of times, but without it, it would have been a very stressful trip ,

took mine last year ( not my usual one- but a gadget I had that had gps/ us maps )
1. forgot the car adapter - took the wall charger !
2. must have turned on in hand luggage as battery was almost flat- only 4 hours drive in front of me
3. did not like the windscreen in the hire car I had.. but worked when on back parcel shelf !

We downloaded the relevant maps to our TomTom before going ( cost £34, but money well spent), and used it extensively around Vegas. Very impressed with the results, found everything we were looking for, slightly quirky in places ( instead of saying "make a U turn if possible" as it does here, it took us into a casino car park, all the way round the car park and back out the entrance we came in by - but it got us facing the right way!!)

Took about 6 minutes to lock on when first swtching on, as fast as at home thereafter.

I think the 6 minute wait for the TomTom to lock on is pretty standard. My TomTom varies wildly from 10-20 seconds to several minutes, though it's a U.S. one which may or may not make a difference.
