Received the email below during the week. It would seem that the terrorist threat is making people nervous.
Please find here an updated notice from Atout France regarding school groups in Paris.
The France Tourism Development Agency would like to inform you that until further notice all schools groups visits are banned in the region of Paris and Picardy in France : this is not a ban on travel at all , groups can still travel to France and these 2 regions in particular. Transportation , hotels etc .. will confirm bookings. We are just worried that tour operators will encounter difficulties in booking new group visits at major cultural sites such as le Louvre which will want to comply with the security measures in place.
These measures are part of level 3 security measures “ Plan Vigipirate” which have been implemented in France following the events of last week .
This is under supervision of the French equivalent to the Home Office and French Ministry of Education so we have no ideas at this stage how long it would last
Unfortunately ,we can only link to a website in French
http://www.education.gouv.fr/cid85267/consignes-de-securite-applicables-dans-les-etablissements-relevant-du-ministere.html,.
Schools sadly have been targetted by ne'er-do-wells in the past, and the French rightly IMHO feel a strong obligation to protect minors who are often targetted because of the innocence of the likely victims.
It is sadly fact that the USA and the UK have already been targetted by terrorists of various persuasions, and so this type of atrocity is not unknown. However this is the first time that such actions have taken place on French soil, and of course the nation has been hit not only by the events themselves but also the outcomes.
It is only reasonable that people should reassess their lives in terms of unprovoked risk .... but the fact that life continues as normal, and that goodwill gestures of solidarity and compassion have been made between strangers are the first indication that if good comes from evil, then evil will not have won the day.
