You can expect different fauna altogether on the Med. coast - not the corals and warm water species that abound in the Red Sea.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your swift reply, Does that mean NO Fish at all ? We loved the sea life so much this year we were hoping for good snorkling again. Would the Med side be a bad choice?

Thanks again

What you get on the med is much less

there are far less corals for the fish to hide/eat, you get far less colour as the fish have to blend much more into the bottom - usually sand

as an example this June we were in Blanes (pronounced Blan ES ) in Spain and I went snorkelling as a prelude to finding somewhere to fish I saw only 5 species of fish in total and two of those species were Mullet (thick and thin lip) a single Trumpet fish and some other small fish in the end I didn't get to go fishing as I do like to be able to catch something

Sharm on the other extreme is so stuffed with brightly coloured fish in their hundreds in small shoals every few feet
then there is the Coral too.

On the Med coast you may see a few of the Red Sea fish that have found their way through the Suez canal - but generally you expect the Med-type fishes.
The Red Sea is essentially an extension of the Indian Ocean, with more tropical species and a few specialities of it's own...
