Yep, - it's the Atlantic, not the Med, and, in my experiencee, is almost always cold.

Depends that you consider cold is. I find it refreshing!

I swam in June and found the sea to be quite warm...I could stay in it for half an hour without being chilled, and there were lots of people in it.

O.K. - perhaps it's me..... but I still think it's cold !! :)

I thought it was quite warm/ish as well last week. It was a lot warmer than our hotel pool - that was cold. So I would imagine it's only going to get better. Strangely enough it seemed warmer on the western part of Oura beach than it was only about 200 yards east (now maybe that was just me). :?

Thanks for all your comments. I love the sea and I have only ever been to Cyprus and Greece and that is obviously a lot warmer!! I suppose it will be nice cos in July i expect it will be boiling so i can cool off!

Pat,
Perhaps we're not drinking enough before we go in !! :rofl

Do you not put duck fat on before you go in;)

I have found the wind direction alters the temp!

No duck fat before I go in, but always goose pimples when I come out !! :rofl

hey, I got enough fat without the duck stuff too
You'd need to be quackers to put that on
Maybe a little more vinho tinto might do the trick, Sagres.......I'm willing to try anyway :rofl :rofl

Hey Pat,

Get into the freezing Scottish sea a few times before you go. The Algarve sea will feel like a hot bath after that.

Mind and take your bubble bath and your wee rubber duck :D

Lummie,
If I did that, my fellow Scots would take one look at me and think....... "she's definitely got to be quackers"
:rofl :glynis :rofl

O no sounds bad then! I just hope the swimming pool is warm!!

Just fire right in there and get it over with. It's far better when you are in, just the initial few seconds that are cold. It drives me mad when people stand about in the shallow saying its cold and then give up........big Jessies the lot of them :)

I was just thinking that Lummie, even in the peak of summer the sea on the west coast of scotland is still bloody cold - even with the gulf stream.

Been the last two weeks of July on two occassions. Once to the western algarve (Luz) and once to the eastern algarve (Cabanas/Tavira). Sorry to say both times the sea was cold. Also found that after about 30 mins we needed to get back out into the hot sunshine, but heh that's no great hardship. :D :D :D
