Just returned from a ten day stay at the Tej, it was our first visit to Tunisia and had a very enjoyable time We found everything in the Hotel first class, with the exeption of terrible reception staff. It took so long to get your room key that, foolishly, I started just carrying it with me and the inevitable happened, I lost it on the beach. The hotel simply charged me 25 dn and gave me a replacment yale key and fob but did not chage the actual lock. So now anyone who comes across my lost key on the beach can get access to the room. The locks are the simple yale type, with the inner door handle having the simple button in the middle to press to secure the door. there is no bolt or secondary chain or any other device inside to secure your room whilst asleep, neither is their any spyhole in the door I feel that if I were a female staying there alone, I would feel unsafe with the low standard of room security. Indeed , knowing that a key with our room number attached was out there somewhere, made us feel a bit unsure of our own security, to the extent that my wife insisted I move the table in our room against the door before going to sleep at night !!

I met a German woman who had been mugged on the beach in the morning, she lost her hotel keys, purse, ipod. She wasn't staying at the Tej. Her hotel just gave her another key. I couldn't understand why she didn't ask for another room. So it sounds like that may be the procedure with some of the hotels there.
