Hi All
Am planning a holiday to Majorca this summer, having not been there for years!!
We are looking at a basic Hotel in Cala Bona. Was wondering what Board to book?
Would appreciate it if anyone has any ides as to how much the basics would cost on Self Catering?
Have heard it is very expensive??
Thanks in advance Allison x
The prices are about the same as at home if you choose local brands. If you want UK branded shopping you have to pay a lot more. I like the flexiblity of self catering and there are some reasonable restaurants serving good food. I have stayed in most of the hotels in C/B over the years it just depends what your budget is.
We will be on a tight budget. Hotels I have looked at so far are the Moreyo
or Sur. They seem really cheap, almost too good to be true!!
But both seem to have pretty good reports on Trip Advisor.
Unsure whether to go B & B or Half Board at mo!

Can't comment on the Sur but have stayed at the Moreyo. It is clean, breakfast is good but evening meal was poor some days. We said if we went back we would go B&B as there is a good choice of places to eat. There is no a/c so gets hot in the rooms, we were lucky as we had a pool view so nice and quiet. The other downside was there is no lift. Saying that we had a great week and it was at a great price.
Cala Bona is my favourite holiday resort after the East Coast of Cyprus. We booked a cheap last minute holiday a couple of weeks before we went not expecting much but it was one of the best holidays we have had, there's something really satisfying about a cheap holiday been really good. We went SC and so ate out for all our meals (I do not cook on holiday!!!!!) and found the choice of good restaurants around the harbour was the best we have seen in one place. There are places to suit all budgets and we found them to be far cheaper than in Cyprus. We ate breakfast at the Rope and Anchor every morning and had snacks at lunch time, either a sandwich, toastie or pizza, again all quite cheap. I personally would not choose HB because if the food is bad you're either stuck with it or have wasted money if you decide to eat out, also most hotels let you pay for evening meals once you are there so you can see if they look ok first and it tends to be cheaper than booking with your travel company. Whatever you decide you will have a fab holiday anyway !!!!
I have stayed at both the Moreyo and The Sur. They are both good for a cheap place to rest your head, but the food is basic in the Moreyo, and it has no lift or aircon (sur also has no aircon in rooms). The staff at both Hotels are very friendly and cant do enough for you. They are both ideally placed for access to the bars and restaraunts around the Bay. The rope and Anchor do nice food, as do most of the restaraunts in the bay. There are some Bars and restaraunts on the sea front behind the Moreyo, with the Argos Bar being my fave. I hope this helps. Oh and if you stay at the Moreyo, contact them in advance and for a smallish fee they will collect you from the airport.
Our one and only holiday in Cala Bona was 23 years ago at Easter. We paid £99 each for 2 weeks s/c. It is the most expensive holiday we have ever had. Our youngest is 23 next birthday!
Got to big up the food in Rope & Anchor and also Janet & Johns will be going back to both places in 9 weeks!!! Roll on 11th August!!!
