Barbados, whilst in the Caribbean, is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands and has therefore been spared from hurricanes for a considerable period of time.

That doesn't mean it will be spared in the future of course, but it is more unlikely to occur in Barbados than those islands more to the west.

Much better than England that time of the year

In all seriousness, the weather in September can be a little unsettled with showers more frequent than normal.

I chose Aruba for August as i was also worried about hurricanes. Aruba lies outside the hurricane belt :D

So much choice, I am completely mind-boggled!

OK this is what we are looking for - A beach holiday in a tropical location - I love Thailand, so that may give you an idea.

My wife loves the beach. I do too, but two weeks of nothing but beach would drive me nuts, so I need some sightseeing as well.

We are in our mid 30s.

I definitely don't want to eat in a hotel every night, would like to try out local restaurants.

Would like good accomodation, nothing flash - 3 star ish

We looked at Tobago, but the reports of crime worry me and it seems very big hotel, private beach focused.

Anyone have any ideas?

Barbados seems to be ticking all boxes.

With what you described, a non AI hotel would be the best choice. There are plenty quality resturants in Barbados to suit all budgets.

Agree with Mark, Barbados would do the trick.
South coast has lots of bars restaurants and more non all-inc accomodation to choose from.
On the west coast I liked the look of Holetown and it's surroundings.
Very friendly and safe island, the people are absolutely brill.

Hiya

We're going to Barbados late September as we saw a great deal. I've had lots of useful info from people here and it seems that although rain can be expected it's over and done with fairly quickly and drys very quickly too. We're going on the 24th and I can't wait!

Mexico wins for me every time or Margarita Island.

Margarita is not too flashy and you're way below the hurricane belt. We went in September a couple of years ago and didn't have 1 day of rain.

Give a thought to a Caribbean cruise also- you would get a taste of several islands, days on beaches, all the onboard activities, great food 24hrs a day ,and if a hurricane is in the area they will take you well out of the way. 2005 was a bad year but last year there were none..
