went to Albufeira early Oct last year, weather was gorgeous, hot and sunny, the evenings you may need a cardi.
We stayed in Old town. Plenty of places to eat in the square, on the seafront and some hidden away in the back streets. A number of bars have singers most nights, some acts seem to do the rounds, so can be found at different venues each night ( same songs though)
The Sol-y-mar and Rocomar are on the seafront, but a bit more costly than some others.Quite a few accommodation are up hill, but you get used to the climb.
I think the Old Town might suit your age group more than the Strip in Montechero, it has more character in the Old town :)
