Morning all, well we are back from Malta a few days now so naturally we are planning our next visit, we are deffinitely back in June and September for 7 or 8 days each time, but we enjoyed it so much this time that we are thinking about going back next month and November for maybe 3 or 4 nights each time, but because of the distance I need a bit of convincing that it is actually worth it for such a short break, can anyone who has done this please tell me honestly if it is worth the effort for only a few nights, don't get me wrong you all know how much we love the Maltese Islands but if it's to much hassle then I may think about elsewhere.
Regards
Sliema2
Also you obviously know your way around extremely well which means you are not wasting time finding places.
Of course it will work out more expensive just going for a short break as the flights will be more or less the same price however long you go for but if 3 or 4 nights is all you can manage then go ahead!!
Haven't been to Malta for a while - me thinks we should get back there next year - the Coastline Hotel is our favourite (can't afford the new Raddisson Golden Sands! My Mum goes twice a year and absolutely loves it - she is 81!
Pippa
Thanks Pippa, you make some pretty good points.
my how you have aged since you have been to malta
Hi Alan, I don't know what you could possibly mean
maybe just taking the air as you walk along the Victoria Lines, or perhaps the view as you both sail past the blue lagoon on the way to Gozo to take Marks dog for a walk round Ta'Cenc and perhaps a swift one or two in Gleneagles Bar before the ferry ride home, then maybe a couple in Tony Bar to round the night off.
Go for it you know you need it.
Dave
Sounds as though that would be the ideal length of time for a Wine tasting tour of Marsovin and Emmanuel Delicata and a trip to Simonds Farson Cisk Ltd
First foreign Country we ever visited was Malta and looking at your age (18!) I don't think you were even a glimmer in your dad's eye in those days, but we did fly out on an empty plane (just 14 of us passengers) on the Thursday and we returned on a full plane on the following Sunday. Just 3 nights self catering, but hey it was brill.
When I consider it takes me about 3 or so hours to travel my folks in Wales, I'd do this journey for a short break in Malta anytime without any qualms!! Let's face it the journey does not entail me driving and all I have to do is sit there enjoying the experience.
Give me half a chance to visit Malta anytime for whatever short period and providing the price is right I'd be up for it,
Trev

Did you not notice Sliema2 has aged 3 years in the last week
He is now 21
the elixur of life he got in malta is starting to wear off
We have just returned 7/3/06 from Malta we departed on Sat 4/3/06. We had arrived at MAN airport for a 0700 flight with GB Airways. The good thing with booking the flights over the internet with BA is that you can check yourselves in on-line the day before and pick which seat you would like to have. This we did and arrived at the airport at 0615.
Unfortunately the runway was closed due to snow This didn't stop GB Airways from getting all the passengers on board for 06.50 though! We sat on board for two hours before they allowed us to take off. A little annoying when we could have had the benefit of sitting in the departure lounge for some of this time.
Anyway we hired a car that we picked up from MLA and returned it there for our departure. The cost of the car hire was the same as getting a taxi from and to the airport so it worked out better value to book three days car hire then take a taxi.
We had a wonderful time and our batteries have been recharged so in our opinion yes it is well worth the travel for a great mini break provided you can get a cheap flight
Stone me! At this rate poor OLD Sliema2's gonna be about 144 years old by Christmas - I Reckon you'd better get back to Malta quick mate!!
Thank you everyone, I'm glad I asked this now, I knew that between you all there would be a good selection of advice, well if we can get a decent deal then we will do it, if not then it will be four days in Cologne drinking Kolsch and munching Sausages.
if you venture into the depths of sliema, down the backstreets, there is a tiny sqaq along which is a dilapadated villa, deserted for many years. if you push open the rusty, sqeaking gate, and venture in. the doorway, if you push hard enough, will slowly open. inside among the dust and the cobwebs you will see a marble staircase. climb the stairs and at the top ahead of you there is an old doorway, push this open and enter. in the old bedroom you will see all the furniture covered in dust. above the old fireplace there is a portrait of sliema2 when he was 18. that is why he wants to return so often as the painting will regenerate his youth. it seems he must return at more frequent periods to get his fix. hence the slow rise in his age as the days go by.
Hi Alan, I like your skillfull use of the word "sqaq", how have you found out my secret of eternal youth, I thought it was safe with me, the elixur that I crave to keep so young is called D'or eyan, it is sold in specialist bars in Sliema and has different coloured labels some are red, some green, some grey which happens to be my favorite, some places sell it in pint jugs if you know where to go, so a Pitcher of D'or eyan Grey does it for me every time,
great reply
i will search sliema for the d'or eyan mines i' in desprate need of the elixur of youth. years of cisk abuse has left me badly in need of some, or perhaps i should try the f-plan diet

Have just done the same to Tunisia - out on 8th March at 6.55 with Thomsons and back on sunday 12th at 10.30 pm into LGW. 2 1/4 hour flight time out, 3 hours back home as rather a bumpy ride. Malta was better than tunisia for lots of reasons
Sure glad you said Malta was better than Tunisia............
I make regular short trips to Malta - maybe 3-4 times a year, but never stay overnight - you know how it is Sliema2, us Gozoites get scared of all the places still being open after dark
Blimey Mark you visit Malta almost as often as Sliema2!!!!!!
