We wanted the same Austria or France with a short transfer, we ended up going to Niederau in Austria twice! it was 1 hour transfer and a very friendly small resort, we booked through Inghams but Thomson and first chioce go there. We stayed at the hotel Sonnschien all the hotels are ski back to the door (weather permitting) there are hotels very close to ski area the Hotel Austria is oposite the meeting place, nursey slopes and lifts.

Next year we have booked Filzmoos (Austria) this has short tranfer and nice atmosphere to it, shame i could find anything in France i really fancy it.
Austria is perfect for what we wanted, ask me any questions if you want any more advice

Andorra is a 4 hour transfer.

Try the LandAlpin hotel in Scheffau , Austria. 1 hour from Salzburg , great hotel with swimming pool, great food.Very quiet little village.Ski bus takes about 3 minutes to gondola.Excellent skiing for beginners and intermediates with a great ski kindergarten for the little ones.Hotel also has a creche.We will be going for our 4th time next year.Our kids are six and four, both are very competent skiers thanks to the instructors at Scheffau. Book online with either Crystal or Thomson and get a discount.

brooce - Les Gets or Morzine is only about 1.5hrs away from Geneva and the skiing is fab. I've just returned from there 5 days ago and the snow was great.
