If you enjoy owning this useful piece of equipment, I'd strongly recommend you put it in your hold baggage, as you shouldn't need it 'en route' and I'm sure wouldn't like to 'lose' it .........
And yes I do realise that it may comply with what you've read in official documents, but arguing the toss with security staff is a good way to start your holiday with unnecessary stress! I watched staff at Geneva confiscate two long nail files from two pretty skiing reps last winter, and the air was blue even though it was snowing heavily.

That's what I was thinking, Al Just hand luggage I'm taking, five days in Benidorm, four of us from Liverpool. I wanted to bring a 4 piece fishing rod too but they don't allow f/rods so I assume they mean travel rods also. I can buy a cheap one there.

Last year, I left a "3 locking knife in a zipped compartment at the bottom of my backpack, thought I'd emptied it all, sure glad the security didn't notice it, I found out when I unpacked at the hotel.

Not as far as I know - to be honest, I wouldn't risk it. First Choice T&Cs say you can't.

Depending on the price of a rod it may just be worth paying for hold luggage!
