This is mostly a rural island so yes we do have snakes, but it is no different to the UK, you make a noise whilst wandering through undergrowth, they are more scared of you then you are of them. They avoid habitated area.
They are mostly grass snakes, whip snakes and slow worms, we do have a couple of vipers no Pythons cobras or anacondas!
No i have never seen one used for entertainment around anyones neck..... I dont think you ever will here!

Hi there,go to corfu regularly, and 2 years ago,my son was having a drink in the bar at his studios, when the elderly mother of the owner came rushing out from behind the bar, brandishing a very large stick and started attacking the tree close by.Apparently there was a snake in there! I wonder whether she over reacted ?!!Last year saw quite a few,but as the previous post says, they seem to be more afraid of us.Just be careful when walking through long grass etc,and remember,it is their home as well! Happen to be an animal lover!!

Have seen many dead snakes not very big on the rpad in Kefalonia, but last year when staying there the owner of the place we were staying had killed one that got on to his permishes it had never happened in the 25 years he had been there I don't think they are poisonus if you are treated within 11 hours if you do get a bit or so I have been told been going to Greece since 198pojo

Hi all

I was in Chlomos last year visiting friends. We saw a snake going through a gap under someones front door into their home Apparently the owners are Athenians and this was there holiday home, so it was all quiet and locked up.

I did wonder though if the snake has established a nest on their bed, taking advantage of the quiet, what a shock they would have had when they came for their hols

Yep, seen a number of snakes in Corfu - both alive and dead. Don't harm them and they won't harm you (the live ones, that is).
