The grand old lady, TSS Topaz, (operated at one point by Thomson, as an A/I vessel) is almost at the end of her long life. After Thomson stopped using her, she operated as The Peace Boat Topaz.
However, her Peace Boat contract runs out on April 28th, after which it is reported she will go to an as yet un-named Indian breaker's yard and will be scrapped.
Topaz
She started life in 1956 as the Empress of Britain, on the transatlantic run (with a certain Tommy Steele serving aboard as a steward!), before becoming, successively,The Queen Anna Maria, Carnivale, Fiesta Marina, Olympic and finally the Topaz.
(I have also heard reports that Thomson's other older vessel, The Emerald, is also to move on from the TUI livery in the near future)
Good times,,,did 6 cruises on Topaz, even got a framed photo on wall to remember.
Aw, the Topaz was our first cruise and we have fond memories. We did 2 weeks back to back and I just loved it and didn't want to go home.
Ditto Luci - our first cruise, 2 weeks and got us hooked!
That is sad news, the Topaz was a lovely ship. We actually have photographs of her engine room, as a friend of my husband sailed on her when she was the Empress of Britain.
Topaz was also our first cruise and the last Christmas one for the boat. What a great ship and crew.
