I am planning a holiday to the Sonesta St George in Luxor in September and would like some info on the rooms as reading the hotel reports it looks like there are even number and odd number rooms with side views of the Nile.
Which room is best for the sunsets and which rooms overlook the water tanks?
Is it worth paying extra for a front facing view of the Nile or are the front rooms all suites?
Can anyone advise, as we like to watch the sun go down whilst on the balcony getting ready to go out preferably with a large G&T in our hands! Not bothered about the sun in the room in the morning or afternoon as we will be out so I suppose we need a West facing room.
Many thanks
We just returned last Thursday and were allocated room no's 309 & 311 they are on the side of the tanks with a side Nile view.
Saying that, there was no noise or smells
The front rooms are not all suites (we had a peep in some on the 3rd floor) They were exactly the same as the rooms we were allocated.
You also get a free safety deposit box in your room.
And yes, facing the west bank is probably the best for what you want. Alternatively, you could nip across the road to the St Joseph hotel and watch the sunset from their rooftop bar at half the price for your G&T
Enjoy!

Also forgot to say that rooms on the other side of the hotel overlook what looks like a childrens playpark and swimming pool. They also have a side Nile view.

So should I request a front facing if possible and if not then a West facing (which is the water tank side with the odd numbered rooms) is that correct?
Are the balconies on the front bigger than the side ones?
I know it's only a room and we will only be spending a minimal amount of time in it but last year we went to Dubai and had a room overlooking the Burg-al-Arab and were mesmerised by the light show and didn't want to close the curtains. We would have hated to have been on the other side of the hotel with no just a pool view.
Thanks
I believe they charge extra for Nile facing views - but, it's always worth a try!
I seem to recall that there were some nile facing rooms which did have larger balconies so they could possibly be the suites. However, not all of the rooms on that side had larger balconies - certainly the ones on the 3rd floor were similar size to the one we had in room 311.
The other option would be to request top floor room (odd numbers) so you will be on the tank side of the hotel but well above it. Think there were either 5 or 6 floors to the hotel.
