That sounds a wonderful trip for anyone with the time to do it. Could you possibly put a link to your site on here so we can have a look? How long does it take approximately to drive down? You presumably break your journey into manageable stages.

Unfortunately I don't drive but I've hired a car with Tunisian friends and driven from Sousse to Matmata which I thoroughly enjoyed.

To answer your question;
We leave UK early morning, drive to Beaune and stop for one night. Next day to Orange and another overnight stop. In the morning we're off to Marseille to catch the Tunis ferry at around midday.
24 hours later we are in Tunisia for the next 17 nights or so, we could reach the desert towns of Kebili or Douz the next day but we choose to take our time to visit some of the sights on the way.

Hi Kevin - much enjoyed your site, but could only read so far then was redirected back to the start! Glad that you have come to love our second home. Like you, we enjoy the winter months there - stay from November to end April - and would love to rough it with you, but haven't the courage , or perhaps i should say, energy - now!! It was also so good to read that people on your website spoke so highly of the Tunisian people, who must be the warmest, most welcoming people anyone could ever hope to meet. Unfortunately following the 2005/6 trip I started to update the site, at the time I had not renamed the pages from the default, page 1, 2 etc. As I revamped the site I named the first few with proper titles, I was so busy producing more pages that I overwrote some of the others. I keep meaning to update it with the 2005/6 report. I'll get on with it soon, I promise.

You just do that Kevin because I've had a look and I'm agog to read the rest. I see you got into the country with your CBs, (essential if you are in a group and need to keep in contact) but wonder what would have happened if they had been spotted later.

Not a big problem I think. Maybe it would be confiscated; I doubt whether one would be accused of spying. A lot of overlanders are taking them in. Some of the people we met carry a spare, normally not working, they hand it in on entry and retrieve it on exit

A CB is necessary if you are with a group as it allows for a commentary from the leader, it is a waste of time if you are on your own as range in the dunes is pretty poor.
