My wife had her bag stolen one hour before we were due to board the ship. In it contained our passports.
We were not aloud to board the ship. Our travel agent omega holidays deserted us. We could not get back into our transfer hotel without our passports. The return flight was cancelled according to our travel agent as we did not board the ship.
Our insurance company (post office) would only pay out for the stolen handbag contents, not the lost cruise.
I have taken legal advice and was advised that no one is at fault... ..

I don't think any insurance would cover you for losing the cruise due to loss of passports.

What is the point of insurance if it does not cover you for theft?

It's always a shock when you read the small print of a travel insurance policy how little you are covered for!! I suppose in this case it would all come down to where the theft took place and what safeguards had been put into place to prevent it ... and in your situation it would have been uninsurable because the passports (and other items) were not locked in a safe. I recently came across a travel policy that a friend was taking out because he was travelling to sub-Saharan Africa, and food poisoning, malaria and cholera were excluded! Caveat emptor and read the small print before signing and accepting the policy!!
And my apologies for misunderstanding...
in that case it's posted in the wrong place because you've started a completely new Complaint thread.I mentioned my post a second time , in a request for advice from a member who is going on a cruise for the first time
But having read it now, you should have done this the first time, what happened to you was appalling and 3 years ago we might have been able to offer advice, but it's a bit late now. And a lot more people would have read about the insurers. The Post Office merely sell out sourced insurance with their brand name on but they change suppliers from time to time so I'm not sure whether it will still be the same. But clearly worth treble checking!
Ross, solicitors looked at this and decided that too many people had let me down and that I would have to pursue all of them at great costs.
well speaking to Ross would have been the first advice! And we might have found someone with previous experience that had found a way. I'm guessing that the policy sold by the Post Office (which may not be the one they sell now) was completely useless for cruises and if we'd been able to show that it might have warned others. We have had other issues about insurance on cruises and it does seem to be an area where you need specialist cover for what appear to be simple problems. Too late to go through it now though.
You are absolutey spot on when you say it is, on the face of it, a small problem. In reality I would not like to guess how many people have been effected by this problem. A cruise holiday usually includes..a ship....a passport ...a flight...and a hotel. The one link being the passport. It's no wonder the insurance companies avoid covering the passport.
