Thaomsons are offering me the Sun Village. It looks OK in the brochure, has any one been there.
I'm gutted the Merengue has closed, but as long as I keep my flight (booked premium seats!) I'm happy.
Any info appreciated.
This forum has been fantastic regarding the sickness in the Dom Rep, and I was able to bully Thomsons with some of the information.
Thanks to all who have contributed.
Please don't tell me the sun village is pants!!!!

As always with tripadvisor there are many mixed reviews, but as with anywhere there are always mixed thoughts...have a look at http://www.debbiesdominicantravel.com

We went to the coral marien with Thomson last month. It was an excellent hotel and has a five star write up. At time of booking at was the same price and star rating as riu, but the sun village was £300 each cheaper. After reading the reviews plumped for coral marien and wasn't sorry. The rep said she much much preferred this hotel to the sun village. I'd personally recommend to see if you can be moved to the coral marien or the iberostar costa dorada
I know someone who stayed at Sun Village when it first opened a couple of years ago, she said it was beautiful and had a great holiday. The only downfall was that it was a bit on the quiet side at night...I guess it depends what your looking for!
They have a website http://sunvillagebeachresort.com which is obviously biased, but I thought it looked fantastic. Have read all the reviews and decided to take the bad ones with a pinch of salt, after reading bad reviews of a hotel in DR that we thought was fantastic.
Hope you enjoy yourself wherever you go.
Thanks, only 13 days to go. Sad thing is, when I get back, you'll be getting ready to go. Why can't holidays last forever?
You'll have to let us know how it was, and if they've finished building the spa yet. Could just do with a nice massage now.... LOL
Have a great time!
Has anybody got recent information on the Sun Village & Spa resort in the Cofresi Beach area of The Dominican Republic, I have seen the reviews on here and as usual it is a mixed bag.
I know that it is layed out on terraces so there are stairs but this sn't a problem.
We have booked a superior room so any info regarding the superior rooms and there location in the resort would be great, also any information regarding getting out and about away from the resort for trips and excursions (not Ocean World) would also be much appreciated.

we are going next june , and i am just wondering, what cocktails are offered there and if they are good, do they do frozen daqueris?? and mojitos, our fave drinks.
also can anyone recoment a block or room numbers that are fairly close to the bars and restaurants without too many stairs, i can cope with stairs but have asthma so would be nice to be near things.
many thanks nicki
There was a cocktail menu, which was quite extensive, although at that time they didn't offer any frozen cocktails.
We stayed near the 'Dolphin pool' I think, which was fine, it was sort of halfway up the hill, and obviously right by the dolphin Pool bar, which meant we could get drinks and take them to our room.
I have to say, I didn't find the steps at all bad, and I am pretty unfit. They are sort of in small groups, so if you did struggle with your asthma, you could always sit down in between, but sure it won't be a problem. There were a lot of extremely overweight Americans in the resort, and I can't help but wonder if they are the ones complaining. (I do wonder sometimes when you read the revies how much people research before they go)
Do avoid the hotel 'welcome meeting' and 'gift presentations', they are just a ruse to get you to buy timeshare, although it's easily avoided.
All in all, we had a wonderful time, the food was nice, drinks free flowing and it was great value for what we paid. They have these double sunbeds by the beach bar which are wondeful. Also reccomend the beach bar in the evening, the ambience is great. Have a lovely time!
i am now very worried by tripadvisor recent reviews esp thos talking of theft and the way they were treted after it happened. i can cope with basic rooms but am also worried about damp rooms as i have asthma and bed bugs as these are a nightmare to get rid of plus iritate your skin,
i mailed the hotel 2 weeks ago no reply
any advice or had anyone been there recently??
also are there any atms in hotel or in cofresi as an option my be taking out our money as we go along, and do atms dispense in dollars or pesos??
many thanks nicki

We're going to the sun village resort and spa in July next year with first choice and just wondered if anyone had been there recently.
I have read some good reports on another site but I prefer to use this one
Thanks
