Hi,
Sorry not sure where to post this question but hope someone can help me.
We're going to Majorca in June for a week and as I always end up going red and freckly for the first week anyway I thought I would have a few sessions on the sunbed before I go to prepare my skin a bit.
This might sound like a really silly question, but can anyone tell me if I'm supposed to use cream before I go on. I've been going to one of those stand up sunbeds for about 3 mins a time but yesterday went for 6 mins and my legs seemed to burn a bit. Is this normal or should I be protecting my skin with SPF cream like in the sun?
you can get special cream made purely for sunbeds - i bought mine from matalan - there are five stages from starting the sunbed from scratch up to quite advanced stages - cost approx £2.50 a bottle - but i think it is best to use something
Thanks alizda, will see if I can get some.
I've never used any creams when I've used sunbeds, but I've also never burnt, so best to take advice from the staff in a reputable salon.
Philippa
Solaresse creams for about £1.50ish. They often have the Hawaiian Tropic Solarium Gel too. You can sometimes find Solaresse creams in markets and other discount toiletries stores.
Most tanning salons sell a variety of lotions and potions, but they are generally very expensive. If you have a branch of Bodycare near you, they have very reasonably priced sunbed creams. But the cheapest shop I know is Quality Save/Home Bargains/Half Price Or Less - they sell a variety of
I've never ever used sun creams when using sun beds - just use Body Shop body butter afterwards to keep my skin lovely and soft! use it on holiday as aftersun too!
I usualy go on a sunbed just before my hols. I never use any creams when I go on and I dont get burnt. You can get creams for the sunbed in bodycare, much cheaper than in the sunbed shop. Make sure you read them first though as some are made to make you go very red and hot!! I just cover myself in cocoa butter when I come off
Solaresse, found it in Wikinsons, looks a bit weird orange and yellow in one bottle bit like oil and water mixes when you tip bottle up. Was a bit sceptical at first, thought what a load of but hey it was cheap and it works Sun showers so much better than bed, I can walk out of sun shower, back 'locks' on sun bed leading to potentially embarassing situation
Some of the creams are what they call tingle creams and they are supposed to bring the melanin? to the surface of the skin which accelerates the tanning process.
They just feel like radium B to me.
The reason why I moved up from 3 mins to 6 is that I'm going to run out of time before my hols unless I go on every day, which I haven't got time to do! It's so annoying though, I'm starting to change colour to a faint golden yellow it's just that there are two patches on my inner thigh just above my knees that have burnt, everywhere else is fine.
