Hi Manfred,

Balbog? That's one I've never seen on any of my searches for different beers, a local brew perhaps?

I see that Carlsberg Bulgaria are opening a 'museum of beer' at Shumen.

Baldur, i take it from your vast knowledge of Bulgaria and that you have a house over there too (remember reading in another post), you have been visiting for a long time?? You seem to know lots. You certainly help lots of people in the forum, me included!Do you use it like a second home and visit and stay quite often in a year?? I wish i was as clued up for going over. Think i'll get by though with all the advice that's here. I might just manage to have a bottle of mavrud on Saturday night (ha ha) But i'll certainly have a few bottles when i'm on holiday, i'll need to keep up wi the hubbie he can drink like a fish :rofl Many Thanks for your advice it's very much appreciated :D Karen

Hi Kazz,

Yes I have a little hovel in a Bulgarian village and try to get over as much as possible - these days I try to stay for longer periods of time, rather than for multiple short visits, as the enforced use of Bulgarian (none of the villagers speak English) improves my knowledge of the language.

I was adopted by a Bulgarian kitten & a nearby smallholder's hen last summer, so appear to be reasonably well accepted in the village (if only by its non-human inhabitants).

My neighbours, Milan & Ivanka are taking care of Gina (the kitten) in my absence - Milan named her, allegedly after Gina Lollobrigida (as she has beautiful eyes), but I'm convinced that he just tacked on an 'A' to his favourite drink.... ;)

Hi Antonrf,
Don't worry you will be fine ;)

I know my friend because she moved up here to Peterborough and had a baby with my cousin. Unfortunately they have split up now so we decided we needed a well deserved break!
We are going to visit her family in the next few weeks, cant wait!

I'm thinking i may have to go on the sun beds before hand and after so i can keep my tan!

Not long now....21 weeks and 3 days and counting :tup

Hi again Jayme, sorry havent been on here for a while, i get easily confused with it and forget where the thread i posted was!!

Yeah im sure all will be fine! The sun, sea and sambucca (or bulgarian equivalent!) will help for sure!

A well deserved break indeed, time to get away and be silly for a whole week! Going to be fun!

tut tut sunbeds is cheating ha! I will probably just go out there, be silly and put factor 2 oil on and frazzle on the first day! I never learn.

21 weeks and 3 days, thats amazing, however you sent that a while ago so its got to be nearer the 20 weeks mark now (im sure you will be able to give me the exact time until holiday?) Im getting excited already! I think we are booking a holiday to gran can tomorrow for mid april so ive got that to tide me over before bulgaria aswell which will be great!

....sambucca (or bulgarian equivalent!)

The Bulgarian equivalent of sambucca is mastika but the most widely drunk spirit is almost certainly rakiya.

Hi Natalieforever.. there's a group of 10 of us from England going to Sunny Beach on 8th August, for one week.

None of us have been before so not quite sure what to expect!

Have you booked yours yet?

You are going to LOVE Sunny Beach, I went last year with my boyfriend and we had so much fun, and the weather was beautiful. Stayed for 2 weeks at the Yavor Palace, nice hotel but terrible reps.
Best restaurant by far was 'Chilli Peppers', the steaks and the chicken were to die for, though you will pay a bit more to eat there.
Ladies, there are some great clothes in Sunny beach, so make sure you have plenty of spending money!!
Please don't buy the dvds from any of the stalls, the copys you buy are total crap.
There is so much to do in Sunny Beach, the resort is huge, so many bars and clubs to dance the night away in. Look out for Lazar club, they had a fome night when we went, FANTASTIC.
We're off to Ibiza this year in July, I hope it's as good as Sunny Beach!
Enjoy x
