Discussions regarding holidays in Bulgaria

Hi Gazza,

It really depends what *you* want/expect from a holiday resort - personally, I'm not keen (understatement) on either as, in *my* opinion, they are both rather large, brash, overly-commercialised blights on the beautiful Black Sea coastline - but others love them because they suit their idea of a perfect holiday.

Perhaps if you indicate what type of holiday suits you, we may be able to point out which resort/area would best meet your requirements.

Regards,

Baldur

I would suggest you look at the Bulgarian resort and hotel reports on this website, and get hold of a Balkan Holiday brochure.

Balkan are the market leaders for holidays in Bulgaria, and offer a great choice of hotels in the resorts. The offerings of other companies tend to be very limited.

It's better to go no earlier than the middle of June or you risk ending up on a building site. In addition, many of the bars, restaurants and stalls are not open until the official start of the season which is the middle of June. Going late September or October risks finding all the facilities are closing down. Bulgaria has a short holiday season.

Never book a hotel which was not up and running the previous year. Bulgaria has a poor track record for finishing building work on time. I know of one hotel which was in both the 2004 and 2005 brochures, and still isn't properly finished with all the advertised facilities.

Hi

We went to Sunny Beach in August for 2 weeks, dont think we would go back there again as its all very much the same, and we found after 2 weeks we where struggling to find different things to do.
Hired a car and went to Goldnen Sands for a few days, which we prefered, but saying that dont know how we would feel had we been there for 2 weeks, next time want to experiance the REAL Bulgaria.

have you thought about combining beach with mountain resort??

Hm... If you`re Winnie the Poh, you can say Yes please, I`ll take both.

Our first trip to Bulgaria was to Golden Sands. I came back knowing that I would go back.
Next year I went to Sunny Beach. I came back knowing that I would go back.
Before this summer, we had a problem. Sunny or Golden...?

We made it easy: In June we went to Sunny Beach for two weeks. In August we went to Golden Sands for one week. Both places are perfect, but if I had to choose only one of them, I`d go to Sunny Beach.

Sad to say I cant give a reason why. Both places are perfect.

Hi
We have been to Sunny Beach, Golden Sands and Albena and like all three, but the one we always return to is Albena, it has a great beach and is not so loud as the others and it is only a short taxi ride from Golden Sands and Balchick if you fancy a day out. We like the north so much that we have now purchased a house close to Albena but still stay in the resort whilst it is being renovated. I am sure you will enjoy your holiday wherever you go as Bulgaria is just a fantastic country.
