We have just booked for the Sunrise Island View in Sharm El Sheikh for end August 2008. Has anyone stayed here recently? We've read the reports on HT and other holiday forums and everything seems to be positive.
This will be our first trip to Egypt and really looking forward to it.
Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance :D

Hi Gemma33,
My wife and I stayed at the Sunrise Island View last Jan 07 and thoroughly enjoyed it, whilst I wouldn't call it a full 5 star it is still good, what we found is that you could use the a la carte restaurants every night providing you book 24 hours in advance, not just one night as stated in the brochure. I would recommend the Italian but Fatima's Egyptian was close second, you'll never get a bigger mixed grill, the guests are predominantly Russian . What we heard before we went , was the entertainment is dire and believe me it is but its that bad you actually laugh, there is a disco but we never went to it so i can't comment. But the highlight is the position of the hotel as to the coral reef, it couldn't be any closer, definately have a go at snorkeling the marine life is the best I've ever seen.

Thanks Mr WRB, thats a great help. Its good you can use the restaurants most nights cos other hotels put a limit on this sort of thing.
Do most of the rooms have sea views? We've upgraded to a junior suite
Thanks :D

hi gemma,
we were there end of july last year..the complex is long so i`m not sure how many rooms have a sea view. we were in a junior suite and we were nowhere near the beach, our room faced the activity pool. the staff at the hotel are lovely and a tip does go a long way..we were treated like VIP`s especially when it came to drinks :D ..it was very hot when we were there with no breeze for 11 days. the entertainment is dire but we just laughed at it :rofl they do have a lot of choice of food and a smoking and non smoking restaurant, me and hubby smoke but we preferred to use the non smoking one.don`t forget your underwater cameras as they are expensive over there, but the is a shop where you can get them done in abt an hour for a good price. theres a supermarket over the road which has some nice stuff and the bottles of real coke are dirt cheap. you can also use the phones in the lobby to order mcdonalds which they will deliver to the hotel gates, just wait outside for it and its very cheap, they do double big macs with 4 burgers in...the kids thought that was great.

sorry to waffle, but you will enjoy it.

Going to Sunrise Island View 28/07/2008 for 2 weeks AI. Having always been self catering was wondering what things will be provided in our rooms at this hotel. I know towels are but as we only get 15kg allowance each don't want to be taking things we will not need. First time to Egypt and AI so really looking forward to it.

Hi. We are booked to go here 28th July for 2 weeks. I would like to know if there is a dress code for any of the restaurants. As we have only got 15kg each don't want to be taking things we wont wear i.e long trousers for myself and 2 sons if it acceptable to wear shorts or 3/4s. Have never done AI or Egypt before so any other advise would be appreciated.
Many Thanks
