My wife and I stayed at the Sunrise Island View last Jan 07 and thoroughly enjoyed it, whilst I wouldn't call it a full 5 star it is still good, what we found is that you could use the a la carte restaurants every night providing you book 24 hours in advance, not just one night as stated in the brochure. I would recommend the Italian but Fatima's Egyptian was close second, you'll never get a bigger mixed grill, the guests are predominantly Russian . What we heard before we went , was the entertainment is dire and believe me it is but its that bad you actually laugh, there is a disco but we never went to it so i can't comment. But the highlight is the position of the hotel as to the coral reef, it couldn't be any closer, definately have a go at snorkeling the marine life is the best I've ever seen.
Thanks Mr WRB, thats a great help. Its good you can use the restaurants most nights cos other hotels put a limit on this sort of thing.
we were there end of july last year..the complex is long so i`m not sure how many rooms have a sea view. we were in a junior suite and we were nowhere near the beach, our room faced the activity pool. the staff at the hotel are lovely and a tip does go a long way..we were treated like VIP`s especially when it came to drinks ..it was very hot when we were there with no breeze for 11 days. the entertainment is dire but we just laughed at it they do have a lot of choice of food and a smoking and non smoking restaurant, me and hubby smoke but we preferred to use the non smoking one.don`t forget your underwater cameras as they are expensive over there, but the is a shop where you can get them done in abt an hour for a good price. theres a supermarket over the road which has some nice stuff and the bottles of real coke are dirt cheap. you can also use the phones in the lobby to order mcdonalds which they will deliver to the hotel gates, just wait outside for it and its very cheap, they do double big macs with 4 burgers in...the kids thought that was great.
sorry to waffle, but you will enjoy it.

This is our first visit to Egypt just trying to find out as much information as possible. The hotel does get good reviews so I am sure everything will be fine.
Thanks again
Going to Sunrise Island View 28/07/2008 for 2 weeks AI. Having always been self catering was wondering what things will be provided in our rooms at this hotel. I know towels are but as we only get 15kg allowance each don't want to be taking things we will not need. First time to Egypt and AI so really looking forward to it.
has any one visited the sunrise island view, hotel in sharks bay, we are going on june 29th :

my hubby never even took trousers, 3/4 in the resteraunt on a night, shorts at dinnertime. there was a few foreigners strutting around with jeans on but by the end of the night they were like drowned rats with the heat. .there was a few with the long shorts and noone said anything but i would deff not be taking long trousers..
