I think you will find that there is very little left of Samudra beach.

I can't help you much on the tailoring front. I had a couple of sari blouses made by the tailors near to the Uday Samudra (on the right as you look towards the sea). They were OK but a bit unfriendly. I also had some tops done by a guy in one of the sidestreets at Lighthouse beach but I couldn't tell you his name (I can't remember the name of the restaurant it was close to either - sorry!). I tend to get my serious tailoring done in Goa or Thailand.

There is an excellent tailor in Kovalam called Ram, he is works from a tiny shop opposte the Jasmine Palace hotel.
The only problem is that he doesn't stock a great deal of material so you would be better off buying the material elsewhere and taking it to him.

Thanks for that, I plan to buy material in Trivandrum so if you know any good places let me know. Couting down the weeks now.........

We stayed at the Jasmine Palace and my wife had a few things made by Ram - all of them copies of other items she had taken with her.
