Just booked a weekend in Talinn for 3 nights End February .
Dont quite know what came over me . Bored this morning and it was a spur of the moment thing whilst I was checking prices with Easyjet . Had previously done some research and had it on my top 10 list of places to go , the price was good £115 for the two of us from our local airport stansted sat-tues so clicked the botton .My quidco cashback can pay for it .
Have plenty of time to find a decent cheap hotel and looks like there are a few of those about but if anyone has any suggestions fire away .
Any other tips would be grateful too . I know it will be cold but we like that and some snow would be better .
Oh Lyn I am so envious we loved it there.
What hotel did you stay at Helen . ??
Lyn, it is very dangerous being bored!
http://www.uniquestay.com/uniquestay-mihkli-hotel Nothing fabulous, but nice & comfy in a good location, just a short walk up a slight hill & down the other side to the main square.
Here Lyn Lyn, it is very dangerous being bored!
hmm it turned out more exciting than a lie down on the sofa .
When I went to Tallinn we stayed at Baltic Vana Wiru which is a very smart hotel & its very close to all the tourist parts of the city.
Mind you most places are close as its very small but great city.
Get the Saku beers in as well !!!
Best of all, we won 1-0
Funnily enough I just booked last weekend . Got a really good deal on the St Petersbourg in the old town that normally seems more expensive £140 for 3 nights B&B .http://www.schlossle-hotels.com/st.petersbourg/gallery.php?gal=1

Will try and upload some pics when I get my head together although for some reason we had the camara set on a poorer quality so a little gutted about that now I've just uploaded them onto the pc.
It was very cold . Down to -17 on arrival although it got a little warmer and probably averaged around -10 . Knee deep in snow everywhere but it all added to the disneyland feel. Beautiful old town , probably one of the prettist we have come across but plenty to keep you going for a couple of days if the weather is bad and you can't really get to see anything outside the old town like us . Plenty of beer to be enjoyed , food lovely and the Estonians we found very warm and friendly .
We stayed at the St Petersbourg right in the centre of old town for a bargain price and were very impressed with the quality , service and our huge room that was more like a suite. Review to follow .

Welcome home! Glad you enjoyed your trip. I'm looking forward to reading all about it. After enjoying Prague, maybe Talinn will be on the cards soon
So glad you enjoyed Lyn. One of the nicest city breaks we've been on.
Sounds like a wonderful weekend break!
Look forward to your review Lyn - it sounds like a great place for a break. Glad you enjoyed it despite the cold!
Gorgeous pics Lyn. I thik we'll have to return there before long. It looks very different in the snow. It was freezing hard when we were there & the pond just outside the city walls was frozen solid. The ducks were sliding everywhere, it was so comical.
Ah loved the photos Lyn! Reminded me of Prague a bit but we didn't have deep snow like that. I bet Tallinn didn't come to a standstill because of the snow!
The cars all have studded type tyres in the winter so no sliding about . snow ploughs constantly shovelling the snow to the sides of the roads and clearing the square . Apparently they have a law there that piles can only be up to a certain height . They have had a really bad winter like us and the piles by the sides of the road are now too big . We couldnt believe what the taxi was driving through on the way to the airport without a care in the world.
Oh and if the temp goes beyond -35 parents have a choice whether to send their children to school . Anything warmer than that they keep going and take it all in their stride.
We never really got a chance to see any of the greener areas which was a shame Helen . Even the park benches were buried and you couldnt see a thing .

Great photos Lyn - can't imagine how many times I would be at the loo if I drunk such big glasses of beer!! Bet you were glad of your tea cosy since it was so cold!! Reminded me a bit of Prague - we were there in February one year, but didn't have quite so much snow.
Yes I suppose it was a little like Prague on a smaller scale but then most of these Eastern Europe (if you can call it that) destinations have felt similar to us . Thats why we like them so much. They all have that common Theme of Old town, nice Architecture (sorry spelling ) in soft colours , churches , river or wall etc.
