Playa Taurito is a smallish resort but it has a huge water park right in the middle, ideal for kids. We stayed at the Suite Princess Hotel earlier on this year, an 'all inclusive' Thomson's hotel which is for couples only. I don't think you can use any of the facilities at any of the other AI hotels, they're all run by various different operators.
There's a good beach with a diving school and jet ski hire, some amusements round about the resort, shops, several restaurants & bars. It will be very hot in August, bring plenty sun screen !! You can get a bus to the lovely resort of Puerto Mogan nearby, it runs very frequently and although the journey along the cliff edge is a bit hair raising (don't look !), the drivers know what their doing. Unfortunately there's no way you can walk to any other resorts, the narrow cliff top roads are forbidden to walkers, but there are good buses to other parts of the island.
