The metered fare should be around 250 baht. Plus you'll have to pay a 50 baht surcharge which is applicable for all taxis taken from the airport. Also, unless you're arriving late night, it's better to take the expressway into the city centre as this will avoid most of the traffic snarl ups that have been known to happen in Bangkok from time to time. Figure on another 60 - 90 baht on expressway tolls, depending on route taken.

I usually find that it's easier to go up the stairs into the departure area. There are plenty of taxis dropping people off, who would otherwise be going back into BKK without a passenger.

This way you're avoiding the queues and the touts in the arrivals area.
