Hi All,
Even before we've had our 2007 holiday i'm looking to next years one!! We always book early - that way we seem to make more of an effort to save but I am wondering whether we pay over the odds by doing this.
I'm looking for next June to go AI for two weeks to the Suite Atlantis Fuerteventura - this will cost around £2000 for the fortnight for 2 adults & 2 kids.
I usually have a budget of about £1800 for our holiday so this is on the expensive side - what do you think? Shall I wait or book?? What usually happens to the prices. I have been gutted before when Thomson suddenly has a blue cross sale & everything is discounted. What time of year are the holiday sales??
Should I wait & see if the prices will drop?
If your'e booking with Thomson it's cheaper online, also use the code PERKZ3 for an extra £100 off.
Cheers
If you definitely know that you want specific accommodation & to fly from a specific airport I would book early. If your flexible about dates & properties you can afford to leave it longer. We're already making a list & once we come back from Mexico in August we will book.
Messing around on the holiday sites (as you do )I checked a specific place for this year just to see the price - all inclusive 2 weeks in August 2007 just over a jaw dropping 3 grand , next August similiar dates but different flight times a more realistic (for most including me) £1700.
The early birds really do get their worms especially in this case.
Hi we booked our august 08 holiday in April as the price included a free child place and it was cheaper than if we had booked for this august, it depends on your party and if your bothered where you go we are a family of 5 ,3 being children there is not a lot of accommodation around to suit us so we grab it when we can, so to speak
Booked this years holiday in February last year and next August 2008 holiday in September of last year
we've had discussions about this sort of thing before on HT.......we booked early once to get the dates hubby was allowed off work...then watched the price drop and drop
but the TOs are more canny nowadays, and know people wait for last minute bargains...so they play a different game now, and I'm not sure what the rules are
I have booked for summer 2008, to a place that I have looked at & priced for the last three or four years so I kind of knew the going rate.
The down side of booking early I sometimes think is you have committed yourself and then can't really change your mind if you see something else that you later think you might actually have prefered. Not without paying huge amendment fees.

Unfortunately I'm not brave enough to either try last minute or DIY, so it does pay to book early. With the free child place and discounts both the children are basically going free.

WE have booked our flights for August 2008, they were so cheap compared to other companies. I prefer booking a long time in advance as I always like to have something to look forward to. Prices generally drop around Christmas time, or just before but it depends if you want to wait that long to book.
If we're doing a DIY or a weekender then I'll book the accommodation as soon as I can which is normally a year according to most hotel websites and then the flights as soon as they release the relevant schedule.
As you are going in June which is out of school holidays it is possible you may get a deal nearer the time.I had been looking for weeks for a holiday online to Turkey and out of desparation I phoned Thomson on teletext and got a new AI for £239.I checked the price online just after I booked and it was £459 so it isnt always cheaper to book online.
