Thanks Sunbear!
Anyone know if there are direct shuttles, buses or anything between the two airports?
Is it not possible to get the internal flights changed so they go from and return to the new airport as Thai fly to Phuket from both the old and new airport (thats assuming you are flying back into Bangkok from Phuket).
im flying with Thai air to BKK next week on the 747 400 I think. Any idea if these planes have personal inflight entertainment ?
also, Lyn we're flying out on the 27th (from London) but havent heard anything about any changes from thai air or anyone else.
Thanks
We are flying with Thai Airways on 14th April from Heathrow to Bangkok and staying there 2 nights then going from Bangkok onto Phuket with them and staying for 5 nights then back to Bangkok and back to Heathrow. not heard anything from our tour operator (Kuoni)yet about change of airport. I hope that means that we are staying the same!! Anyone else flying from Heathrow to Bangkok then on to Phuket later?
no personal entertainment system I'm afraid...but I'd still rather fly Thai long haul than most other airlines.
wel given that we have bookedm paid and am flying next week I dont have a lot of choice. Having said that I use them because they fly direct which is the most important thing for me,
I've just flown with Etihad to Bangkok, see my post called 'Etihad Airline' for details, they are excellent!!
Hi we are flying to Thailand with their international airline. Does anybody have any information about them, space, meals TV etc...
Flying from UK from Heathrow using 747's. Seat pitch is 34inch in economy so pretty good. Great inflight service, good meals. No seatback TV's just overhead ones so limited on the entertainment provision.
Sunbear's nutshell is spot on.

This is an excellent source of information on the majority of airlines.
Enjoy!

Pro's -
Reasonable food
Good seat pitch in front of you
Cons -
Just 'ok' service
One of the narrowest seats I've ever been in, no room at all to move, really really cramped.
In flight entertainment was a joke. One big TV to watch, but that cannot be seen from anyone in rows 34-36. There is a very small TV for these rows, which can only be seen by people in row 34 really. They showed the same film coming back as they did going out as well evidently. Quite frankly I'm amazed that an airline can have a good reputation when it's this bad.
Both the flights (out and home) were delayed by an hour.
To upgrade to Premium Economy was £400 per person one way!
It was a 10.5 hour flight going out and over 12 hours coming home.
I'm really disappointed, they are not cheap to fly with and should do better. We'll go with EVA or one of the middle eastern airlines next year.

While I do enjoy flying with them they do need to upgrade their fleet - if just to keep up with their competitors. The 747's are getting a bit long in the tooth, at least get the entertainment system upgraded. Personally I'm happy enough reading a book but appreciate others want more.
We are flying to Thailand next sat (4th Oct) with Thai air. Do their 747's have personal IFE in economy yet? Last time we flew with them was 2006 and the service and food were great but seat back T.V's would have been a real Godsend.
Unfortunately not yet, I'm flying to Bangkok with them in a few weeks time and would love a bit of video to help me while away the time.
yeah we did the same flight in 06, it was my 1st ever long haul flight and trip on a jumbo. Couldnt fault the service but wasnt able to see the screen. At least this time I can make sure Ive got some books and maybe a personal DVD player to wile away those 12 or so hours!
We flew Zurich to Bangkok with Thia a couple of year ago and that one did have backseat TV

That would have been aboard the newer Airbus A340-600. They only operated the older Boeing 747-400 out of LHR.

Flying to Thailand with Eva air witha 25kg baggage allowance (pls 5 kg hand luggage) yet all of our internal flights are Thai airways with an allowance of 20KG (plus the 5 for hand luggage) - Just in case (not that i have started packing or weghed anything etc!) does anyone know how strict they are on Thai for going over on baggage?
I must admit I pretty relieved to see that Heathrow and both airlines now allow the 5kg handluggage plus a small hand bag!
