Hello everyone. I am planning a vacation for myself, my wife and three children to Thailand at the beginning of July 2014. I am planning on staying for 2 or 3 weeks. I am aiming to stay in a nice hotel in the Pattaya region, and would love the chance to visit Bangkok for a few days..Been saving for 3 years now so Finally am in a position to book,,,
I am hoping some of you more experienced travellers to Thailand would be able to offer some friendly advice!
1. Could anyone advise if I could book Flight/ accommodation separately to save money and guide me in the right direction! If not is it best just to book with a good all round travel firm, such as Thomson or Thomas Cook? If you have any suggestions please let me know..
2. Is their a public travel service between Pattaya and Bangkok...Or do I need to book a taxi etc..
3. Does anyone know and recommend a good scuba diving centre in Pattaya as I aim to be doing 3 or 4 days diving, and if so which is the best areas to dive from Pattaya...
4. I know Pattaya has a reputation for Bars and Pole dancers etc. However, I would like to avoid these areas as much as possible, as I have two youngish children, so could anyone recommend Family friendly places to go, things to do in Pattaya...However I am pretty savvy on my travels and as such I am still determined to visit Pattaya..
5. Hotels. Please advise a nice 4 star upwards family friendly hotel in Pattaya, and how I can book it!
6. Can I book a hotel in bangkok for maybe 3 days during my stay...and recommendations!!
7. Im from North east Region in England. Is the closest airport servicing Thailand Manchester or is flights available from Newcastle or Durham Tees Valley?
8. Things to do in Thailand? Im interested in going to the elephant village, floating market etc and maybe tiger zoo and exploring some nice scenery and wildlife! Any recommendations!
9. Vaccinations? Any advice would be appreciated, however I will visit my GP and ask him also..
I do appreciate everybody's time taken to read this and would be ever so grateful if anyone can give me some good, sound advice on the above issues.
I see you asked a similar question last year about visiting Florida in 2014, You stated at the time you had two children, you saynow you have three. Is one of your children a baby?, in which case I don't think Thailand in July is the right holiday destination. July is Monsoon time, with torrential rain and extreme humidity, though not neccesarily the whole time.
I haven't been to Pattaya but have visited Thailand on numerous occasions. I personally book flights and hotel, transfers etc. seperately but you may find it would be better to use a travel firm to make all arrangements as travelling with three children to somewhere new may not be easy. Firms such as Kuoni or Hayes and Jarvis are pretty good for far eastern holidays or use someone such as Travel Bag to tailor you an individual holiday. If visiting Thailand you will fly into Bangkok and could either spend a few days in the City on arrival or a few days there before leaving for home.. Bangkok has a huge array of hotels at varying prices, have a look at the recommendations on the Hotel Review pages here.
Hopefully someone else will be able to give you the rest of the Information you require.
My wife and I have just returned from our annual two weeks in Pattaya last week. We stay at the northern end of the beach road well away from the seedier end of town in the Dusit Thani resort, a well established five star hotel. We book it through Bestattravel and have used them for several years without problems they have an excellent website where you can cost out their deals. The hotel has three pools, a leisure centre, tennis courts and is in a superb location. At present, as its the off season the bestattravel site have some good deals on and we have found that the package they offer works out cheaper that putting a deal together yourself. The deal includes two nights for the price of one, breakfast (magnificent) and transfers to and from the airport, with the new motorways the transfer takes about an hour and a quarter
If going to Bangkok I would think about doing it at the end of the holiday as Its best to do it when you are not jetlagged! Love Bangkok by the way I do usually go DIY but don't discount anything. DIY doesn't always have to mean the best price.
Thanks everybody
