Thanks Lordy, hopefully this will work for her.
hi there ive been on the tablets for nearly two weeks and guess what grrrrrr ye i have a cold sore.do you think i havent been on tablets long enough im gutted
Hi there Madmadge, No its takes about a month or so before your body becomes immune you can also take vitamin C which they recommend at Holland & Barratts to give an extra boost which is what I did for the first couple of months.
thanks lordy i will keep trying not ready to give up hopefully it will be my last one
The doctor didn't say it was a cold sore but I was wondering if it was?
If so is there anything you could recommend for a child to use as it happens every time we go away and I feel so sorry for her.
Hope this helps, Lindsay.
No it doesn't blister, it is just at the corner of her mouth. It gets sore first, then red, then dry and cracked. Is this a keen then? I have never heard of that! I will get some high factor lip salve then and see if it helps. Thanks Lindsay.
No problem glad I could help and I'm especially glad your little one hasn't got the dreaded coldsore virus!!! I found a brilliant tubed lipgloss last year by Hawiian Tropic in Matalan, it is factor 15 and has a tiny hint of colour in it but it does't half moisturise your lips.
I'll keep my eye out for that - thanks!
Are there any side effects of taking L-Lysine tablets only since I started taking them a month ago, my skin is realli itchy round my head ( thought I had nits at one point ), neck, shoulders and tops of legs??? No spots or a rash, just a bit itchy
Not that I am aware of! You could always double check with Holland & Barratts.
Boots do a eletronic cold sore treatment, meant reduce healing time to less than using cream. I know a new gel is coming out containing Aciclovir, what is different to the cream, it uses the small amount of eletrical current in the skin to pull it down to the sub derma area of the skin, I think thats right, where the cold sores will develope before moving to the surface and blistering, it hits the could sore before it can develope. I take two 400mg tablets of Aciclovir a day and I am cold sore free. I had to fight for them off my doc and now I get them on repeat.
i never see anyone else abroad with one when i've got one either, and i always feel that folk are staring at me lol
Go and see your doctor and get put on a course of Aciclovir tablets when it starts again, get the tablets first and if they work its a cold sore, they can stop a cold sore in its tracks. The cream is a waste of time and my doctor told me it doesn't work very well.
You have to be careful because you can spread cold sores around your body and the eyes, so if you touch a cold sore wash your hands straight away, have your cup and towel if anybody gets a outbreak. Cold sores can kill if it makes it way into the brain and only 40% survive a cold attack in the brain, I don't know how many it has happened to but it can happen but its rare.
No kissing anybody if you have a cold sore but you don't have a cold sore you can give to others, the virus can be in the skin without a cold sore appearing. The only place in the body a cold sore can't attack is the kidneys, kidney cell don't have 5th receptor other body cells have and the herpes virus exploits the 5th receptor, but scientist don't know what the 5th receptor is for.
Its hard to believe since Aciclovir was developed in the 70's and nearly 40 years later a new treatment has not be delevloped, there is a new drug on the way in about 5 years time being trialed by bayer, works in a totally different way to aciclovir but its still at the DNA.
You can ask you doctor to do a blood test to see if your daughter has antibodies for the cold sore virus, that will tell you. Anybody not sure if its a cold sore get a blood test. If it is a cold sore and the only way she would of got it was by somebody infected giving her a kiss, this how many people get infected as a child, a aunt or uncle give the child a kiss while being infected.
Kedi if it is a cold sore the boots electronic treatment my be good for a child because you only apply the treatment for 3 mins twice a day, you can apply as many times as you want, maybe as a prevention measure apply every few days.
The virus is for life, no cure as yet.
Is the electronic treatment that you can get in Boots expensive and what's is called please? Can I get it over the counter? Thanks
Shirley its in a blue boots box and says electronic cold sore treatment, in my boots it was with the colsd sore creams and the price was £34.99, just pick it up and pay at the counter.
i think it depends on the person and their antibodies because aclovir did not work for me the doctor perscribed it to me many years ago for a good few month and I got lots of coldsores during the course. nothing else other than the lysine has worked for me I have even had UV light treatment to kill the virus which didnt work! I think you have just got to keep trying everything for a few months until you find what works for you as no two people are alike.
The only reason aciclovir wouldn't work if you have picked a drug resistant herpes simplex 1 virus. Aciclovir works at the DNA level by blocking a enzyme which the virus needs reproduce, the virus is becoming resistant to aciclovir and is by passing the emzyme to reproduce. Because aciclovir works at the DNA level it will work and it does not depend on anti-bodies to work, the only reason it would not work if you picked up a drug resistant form of the virus. You might have herp's simplex 2 which is harder to threat and aciclovir need to be given by a drip to work in a high does and the only way you would get that if the mother had genital herp's.
The only way somebody can have cold sore's since birth is if the mother has genital herp's, and the only other way is if somebody kissed you just after birth who had a outbreak, or outbreaks, nobody is born with the virus they have to have contact with somebody who infected with the virus and who has a out break, or if the virus was in the skin without a outbreak.
Lordy was you using from the doc the cream or the tablets, the cream is usless and when I used the cream on a cold sore I got a cold sore where I never had one before, with the tablets.
I am not trying to offend anybody taking about genital herp's and mothers passing it on, its a way baby's get it from birth, its something what does happen. or as say a relative or friend of the family kissed a baby just after its born who has a outbreak.
