They'll need to learn Russian/Lithuanian/Latvian, Herssonissos is full of East Europeans, hence it's nickname of Little Moscow. Sorry

Well, it certainly wasn't like that when we went there!

Stayed in Stalis, last 2 weeks of September last year and the Hersonissos was swarming with East Europeans, Star Beach was re-named Tsar Beach. Unfortunately it is in their nature to be quite clanny and so come across as mob handed and ignorant. Having worked with them, most are fine but you'll never get a conversation out of them.

It just depends what you want from a holiday. If you want a real Cretan experience then the Stalis/Heronissos area is not the place to be. If you mainly want sun, sand and bars then fine. Mind you it is possible to strike lucky with the weather in Blackpool!

There's not a lot to do in the area of the Grand, as it is at the top of the hill between Stalis and Hersonissos. You can get on the bus, regular service, or the Happy Train to take you through to Stalis/Malia - at irregular intervals, or to Star Beach. There was a diving school at bottom of the hill, through the hotel grounds opposite. Also a small private beach at that location, about 10 minutes walk from the Grand.

As far as Blackpool, you also need to be able to speak Russian.

Yes the Russian/Lithuanian/Latvian have seemed to have invaded the whole of Crete over the last few years, unfortunately many of them seem to leave their manners at home!!!!! but they do seem to stick to All Inclusive hotels....and dont often venture out .... another reason to avoid the dreadful All Inclusive hotels
