i refer to this thread about Zante/Kalamaki by a member called chris c,i couldnt respond in it as it's locked but i wanted to say that having read it i'm disappointed that it casts such a negative light on the resort of Laganas. Having visited Laganas more than once and myself living and working in Faliraki, which is more or less the same sort of place,it's very disheartening to read such negative opinions, many thousands of people from various nationalities visit resorts like 'Lags',faliraki, malia, kavos and so on and have a completely trouble free, fun filled yet relaxing holiday and return year upon year,i'm not just referring to the 18-30 singles set,i refer to families, couples of all ages, singles, groups of mixed or same sex friends and even OAP's. To stereotype these resorts as being purely about drink, sex and disorder takes the food from the mouths of the local business owners, residents and workers and adds to the already unwarranted reputations these resorts suffer from.
Resorts like Magaluf, san antonio, playa de las americas have regular muggings, stabbings, running battles between gangs of lads, drugs, rapes and allsorts yet you never hear about them in the way you do the Greek resorts, after 8 years of working in Faliraki i can safely say i have never been involved or threatened by any violent incidents, not one girl i know has been raped,i've never been mugged, burgled or swindled and apart from the odd English idiot all the tourists are as good as gold. You can either blow your head off on sambuca on some bar crawl or you can sit in a late taverna eating with the locals and drinking wine, you can sit and watch sky sports one night and go to a bouzoukia the next in ANY of these resorts and for the admin on here to allow such negativity to be locked against response is in my opinion very disappointing.
People are welcome to put the comments on here and yes the press do go on about Brits abroad, mind you that seems to have calmed down over the last couple of years.
I've only been to Zante once to alykes about 4 years ago I think it was so most likely read Chris's posting for when we went.
So if you have more info thats gratefully received.
My younger daughter is fancying a greek holdiay next year so all opinions are helpful.

first to the Mediterranean Hotel in Lagana at the beginning of the season, there was some trouble with young Brits from university who had finished their exams, but the zero tolerance the local police were using worked as around 8 of them were deported after only 2 days on the island
second to the Diana Palace in Argassi.. unimpressed with the beach!!
and finaly last month to the Plygos Beach Hotel [this was not our choice but a family holiday so we had to please everyone]
we enjoyed all 3 holidays in different ways,

I've been to Kavos, Laganas, Faliraki, Malia, Ayia Napa, Hersonnissos, San Antonio (x4), Kardamena.... and they are all fine. I've been as an 18 year old with the lads and I've been there as a 30+ with g/f and I've had great holidays (very different, but great )
I think some people forget that they were young once..
They do indeed, not only that though, some people despise anything they don't enjoy and dismiss as somehow inferior anyone who enjoys said things.
