Things not to miss in Goa

I'm going back to Goa soon, and have been thinking about my favourite places to visit, and things to do, so here's just a few in no particular order.

The Hindu Temples around Ponda

Old Goa

Mapusa market

Portuguse Mansions

A drive to Terakol Fort

Anjuna Flea Market

Ingo's night bazaar

Panjim and Fontainhas

Cycling along the southern beaches

And just exploring the beautiful countryside away from the tourist areas.

With all the posts about the negative side of Goa, I think it's about time to mention the highlights, and am sure many of you can add to this short list.

Try exploring the area around Aldona and Assonora, nice and peaceful walks by the river out there. Or visit Pernem taluka or Moira. Visit village churches during a service, also interesting to do. Real life away from tourist areas makes a nice change. :tup

Also Mayem Lake, not overly exciting IMO but at least you can say you've been - nice gardens there, small but nice - also a little tea room for a refreshing cuppa!

We stayed down in Maharashtra this year as well for a few days, which was beautiful... but a bit of a drive... we took the car and went with split and O/H ... had a fab time and it was well worth it
