Hello, as a regular visitor(viewer) to the site I now have a question to ask!

We are in the process of booking TOM 642 from GLA - POP in August and am confused as to why there is no premium economy. Does this mean that we will be flying on one of the ex Thomsonfly 767's that's in an all economy configuration or god forbid have they already downgraded us to a 757? Also, does anyone know the previous flight for this aircraft before it positions up to GLA on the Friday?

Thanks in advance :)

GLA-POP-GLA (TOM642/3) are operated by an ex-Thomsonfly Boeing 767-304/ER (283 seat / winglets, G-OBYD). This aircraft has a premium cabin. It's likely premium is fully booked by now, hence unavailable. It operates GLA-SFB-GLA (TOM796/7) the day before and BHX-MBJ-BHX (TOM374/5) on the Thursday. You'll find extensive aircraft information on our What Aircraft? guide (link below).

Petey, when did you book and when are you flying? And have you explained to them exactly why you need to be close to the loos? My understanding is that medical seats can't be booked in advance in the sense that they aren't available to be booked direct by passengers through the on-line systems or by travel agents etc and if you haven't explained that you're requested them on medical grounds this might be why they are saying that you can't book them. Also, I regularly book assistance/medical seats for my mother but we aren't usually told the actual seat numbers until we check-in.

The Customer Service/Special Assistance people control them but if they aren't needed by people with medical needs then they are released for allocation to anybody as part of the remaining last minute seat allocation. If the best they can offer you now is row 3 then this probably means that they have already allocated your preferred seats to others with medical needs and they won't get into a discussion with you about the relative merits of your needs over other passengers who have also requested special assistance/medical seats.

I have found that you do need to make any special requests re medical needs and seat allocation as soon as possible - ideally at the time you book or immediately afterwards. I'm sorry to hear that this might prevent ou going on holiday and hope that another time that you can get it sorted early on - I know just how much anxiety these sort of things can cause.

If you cancel your holiday, your going to lose money. I understand you need to be near the loo's, but is row 3 much further away than row 2?
Reply
No i cant sit in row 3 as i have to have my legs out so my bag is not chrused up for 5 half hours on the plane and as my bag will leak and as well my legs go dead alot

dead as well i need to be in the loo a lot its not fair asking every one to keep movng all the time and i have lots pain so i sit by the window so i feel safe when i went to turkey this year with thomson they give me row 1 weeks before we flow out .Thomson has all ways been good with me as where my heath is but i dont no why this time there not willing just give me the seats i really need

You would be able to stretch your legs out and put them under the seat in front, which you can't do with a bulkhead seat.
As SMa says, maybe they have already been allocated to other travellers with medical needs? Unfortunately it isn't always possible to get the seating you want. I know you would like a window seat, but wouldn't an aisle and a middle, or 2 aisle seats be better than not going at all?

i seat by window for one reason is so i dont get bumped in to other wise its pain full for me like thomson should try living with no bladder then then i knw why i need row1 no seat not all ready been taken

Petey, I'm a bit confused by the above - are you saying that you need the whole of row 1 for just yourself rather than that you are trying to get 2 seats together for yourself and a travelling companion? I think that the only way you could guarantee this is if you paid for extra seats because Thomson's response now starts to make a bit more sense to me if they are saying that if the flight isn't full and the other seats in row 1 aren't needed by others with medical needs then they'll alocate them to you at check-in, but that otherwise the best that they can do is guarantee you two seats in row 3. Am I reading this correctly?

I appreciate that wearing a bag makes life very, very difficult but the DRA laws only require them to make 'reasonable adjustments' and what constitutes a reasonable adjustment is still an area of developing case law. At the moment, it looks like they are saying that they think that guaranteeing you two seats in row 3 (window and middle) is a reasonable adjustment but guaranteeing you all 3 seats in row 1 so that you can sit by the window with room to stretch out and don't have to ask other passengers to move when you need to go to use the toilet isn't. I think that at the moment, the only way of challenging that decision on their part would be to seek legal advice as to how you could build a case proving that what they have offered you is not a 'reasonable adjustment' within the terms of the Acts.

I know that you say that they have done this previously but a lot depends on when this was and when you are travelling this time. The difference in response this time could be that you are now booked to travel in the high season/school holidays when they know that the plane is likely to be fully booked as opposed to your previous trip being in the low season when they knew that it was unlikely to be flying out with a full passenger load. I'm not trying to excuse their attitude, just look for possible explanations.

PS Have you discussed this with your GP? A letter from them confirming what your medical needs are and endorsing the request for a row to yourself might just make a difference.

Hi all,

Does anyone know the aircraft type that is scheduled to operate TOM4314/5 and TOM4352/3 LGW-PFO-LGW on the 16th of November 2011 and the 23rd of November 2011?

Thanks
Nick

I don't have the Winter 11 aircraft schedule as yet, it'll be another 2 months before I get that. It's normally an Airbus A321-200 on the TOM4314/5 and a Boeing 737-800 (winglets) on the TOM4352/3, but I can't confirm that as yet.

Is there a row one? I thought the seating plan showed row 2 as the first row and darren confirmed that row 2 were medical seats. The seating plan shows row 3 c and 3d are also medical seats.
I can understand the need to feel safe, but I really don't think wanting 3 seats for 2 pax (if that is what petey is asking for) is reasonable. If they only need 2 of the 3 on the day, then fair enough, but to want to be guaranteed them, unless you actually pay for the extra seat, is unreasonable. Airlines generally try their best to accommodate people, so I'm sure if they can, they will.

Hi Darren, thanks for the reply!

Flights have now changed and we're now on GLA-PUJ TOM 742 and was wondering whether this one is still ex-TOM or if its ex-FCA.

Thanks in advance

monarch A321,

The TOM742/3 is also operated by the ex-TOM (G-OBYD).

G-OOAN is back in the air so unless there are any further technical issues in the fleet, you should be fine. Have a great holiday :cheers :sun2
