Hi Dazbo

I'm due to fly TOM 144, Manchester to Cancun on 29th June 13. I've been advised that i'm not on the Dreamliner anymore but have been transfered to the 767. My question, is there any way to find out whether this plane will be an ex thomson plane or a Ex first choice one. I'm not a fan of the 2-4-2 seat configuration being a family of 3.

Imbrugliasboy,

My understanding at the moment is it'll be an ex-FCA 763 as the leases of these have been extended to cover until the 787's are delivered. However, I suspect they'll be reconfigured to 2-4-2 in order to get the required number of economy seats as the 787-8 has a much larger economy capacity (244 compared to 195). Seat pitch should remain 33".

I hope that's the case. Much prefer the Ex first choice config!

Thanks Dazbo

We are flying to mexico on the 23rd of may and according to my wife who took the phone call from first choice the seat plan is 242? It makes no difference to us as we have booked 2 seats with extra space. Having flown on one of these back from cuba in 2011 in economy.... Not very comfortable as the seats felt smaller although the leg room was fine.

Thomson don't really have much choice under the cirmunstances though in order to get those that wish to go on their original booking away on holiday.

Would you happen to know if that one is the 2-3-2 or 2-4-2 seating please ?

Thanks again.

AMSTERDAM,

As it'll be a change of aircraft from the 787-8 delay, I suspect 2-4-2 but that's yet to be confirmed.

No problem.

My son can book his ex legroom seats 90 days prior to return leg apparently. Would imagine they will find out then ?

Have Thomson held back sales on the Dreamliner in case the ongoing delays affected their program this summer ( which is eventually has ), they seem very confident that all passengers will fit onto the alternative aircraft giving its a 767 with less seats. Unless of cause they are banking on passengers switching to regional airports that just fly the 767.

Yes, that's when the seat plan will be uploaded to allow seats to be selected. It's worth checking a day or two before though as they're sometimes uploaded early. Given they've booked extra legroom seating, there's only 2 rows for them to choose anyway; the door 2 area and overwing exit row. Personally, I prefer the overwing exit row.

Something rather strange Thomson have said on there webpage is passengers passengers travelling out late June and returning early July will still have both sectors of their flights operated on a 767 regardless of if the 787 if flying or not

They also state the 787 will be used for outbound flights in July if its flying again but passengers will still return on 767s if they flew out in June.

All seems rather confusing to me why would they send un-nessecarry planes out should 787s be flying

Grahamy,

The 767's can be configured to accommodate 328 passengers if so desired, the size of the aircraft isn't an issue, it's just the number of seats installed. The 787 has 244 economy club and 47 premium club, the ex-FCA 763's have 63 premium economy and 195 economy, so something has to give. Either they're reconfigured to 2-4-2 in economy or they're banking on enough people swapping or cancelling. I can't see them holding off on sales in the current economic climate.
