You should be able to select your seats as soon as you have a confirmed booking.
It should be 'free' (but factored into the cost) then it would stop the 100's of complaints on the Thomson Facebook page re kids being seated away from their parents because they haven't paid extra to select their seats.

I don't agree. It shouldn't be factored into the cost. Lot's of people don't mind where they sit, so why should they have to pay for it in the price of the ticket, just to appease people that don't consider sitting together to be important enough to pay for, but then proceed to moan? Having a base price and being able to add the bits you want is far better IMO. That way everyone has the option to choose what they add.

If sitting together is important to people, then they should factor it into the cost of the ticket or holiday themselves when comparing prices, the same as they would with extra legroom, extra luggage and upgrades etc

Tend to agree with the post above, we travelled Thomson last week to Palma and didn't pay to select our seats.

On the way back we were split up tbh we couldn't care less, I would rather save the money !

At least not including it in the price gives us that option. We were given seats together on the way out but I wouldn't have moaned if we weren't as we know it's a possibility.

Another one here who agrees with sunaddict - we nearly always go for extra space or legroom seats -and make sure we get them reserved as soon as the seat plan opens -its getting ever more important with the 3-3-3 configuration on the Dreamliner-not "couples friendly" - quite a lot of people were split up on our recent holiday to Mexico - some didn't care one jot whilst others moaned !!

So if you book extra legroom or space that doesn't guarantee that you will be sat together ?

Am I imagining it or have I read somewhere that Thomsons are about to retire their 767 long haul fleet? If so does anybody know how many Dreamliners they will have based at Manchester?

Hi Sunaddict, you have me confused now as when you check online it says 90days from your Return flight i cannot find anywhere where you can book outbound seats separately. I know my wife tried 90 days from our outbound flight and was told to call back it has to be 90days from return flight. I agree all so confusing if i book Qatar, KLM, BA, Emirates i can book my seat number at the time of booking at no extra cost, for Thomsons its another way of getting cash from your pocket. The reason we use and pay is i have a bad back and need to get an isle seat so i can get up and move.

@andy66 - no guarantees of sitting together in EITHER Premium OR Extra space/legroom seats! You don't have to pay any more but you MUST go online or phone in the 90 day window to reserve two seats together or you may get stuck in the odd seats.
On our recent flight on the Dreamliner there were odd ELR seats left unbooked,; we had a single guy sat next to us on the return journey who was part of a wedding party who were scattered all over the plane and on the way out we had a married man whose wife was about 6 rows behind -bit of a pain because he had the window seat ,and his wife kept coming up to lean over to talk to him!!!

@iankitch -think that they are planning to retire the last ex FC 767 in July...but they will still have ex Thomsonfly planes in use.

iankitch,

Aircraft aren't based at any particular airport, they rotated to cover long haul from the main airports as well as regionals. MAN will normally have 2 787's operating at any one time, on some days 3. The remaining ex-FCA 767's will leave the fleet by end of July (replaced by 787's). The ex-TOM 767's will remain on fleet for a while yet.

Hi Darren
Thanks for info, from Thomson website it looks like there are 5 767s left in fleet and 6 Dreamliners but don't know how old that info is.

iankitch,

There are 4x 787-8 currently in the fleet with the last 2 due for delivery in July. There are 2x ex-FCA 767's that will depart at the end of July and 3x ex-Tom 767's that will remain in the fleet.

Thanks Darren
Looks like the chances of getting on a Dreamliner for long haul are getting better.

iankitch,

Flights operated by the 787-8 are highlighted in their brochure (linked from our What Aircraft? guide) so you can see which flights are scheduled with them.

BA charge for seating requests. If you have Gold or Silver status with them you can choose them free at the time of booking, and even Silver can't choose exit rows. If you have a fully flexible ticket you can select them free at time of booking. Other than that, there are no free seat selections at time of booking.

You can't book your outbound seats separately with Thomsons. At least not officially, although some call centre agents will let you, and some will let you book both at 90 days prior to the outbound. Most stick to the rules - 90 days prior to the inbound.

Thanks for the info Dave :tup

Do Thomson have any program whereby if you're a regular flier you can gain status so you can choose a seat when you book ? Like BA does , silver and gold rewarding regular fliers and not just with seat booking either .
The reason I ask is that my wife had Thomson cabin crew leave behind a passenger list :) which had a lot of detail about how many flights each passenger had flown with Thomson and thereby how valuable their custom was to Thomson .
I'm trying to understand the logic of a customer who has spent more money on a 2 or 3 week holiday having a worse choice of seats than someone who has booked 1 week and probably spent less .

andy66,

There isn't a frequent flier program with Thomson.

Oh , I wondered if they had something like Monarch's Vantage Club , though I think that's only for scheduled flights .
