I know this topic has been done over and over....but I thought I'd tell you how the time share touts are attracting people these days.
They stopped us and offered us a discount card for a duty free shop in the torviscas shopping centre. They said it could be worth 10% or 20% but we'd have to scratch it off to see. We scratched it and then they started pointing up onto the hill at an orangey yellow coloured building where we were to go to collect my fantastic prize (I got a better one than hubby)......and that there were only 4 in a pack of 1000 cards like mine. They then mentioned Club La Costa, and I said I wasn't going as it was a time share thing. Then they denied that Club La Costa was anything like that. mmmmmm.
Then when I came home I told my mum as she has a time share and I've heard her mention Club La Costa before (that was how I knew what that was). She said that's terrible that people with scratch cards are using their name etc, and she said they don't do that. God, she's sucked in too!!! lol.
Anyway just wanted to point out - not that we ended up going to any timeshare talk, but just that they're actually lying to you in the street and telling you it's a discount coupon for a duty free shop in the commercial centre! Oh dear!
Time share touts (gits) are the one thing that really spoills Tenerife, if they were such a good thing we would all have them and those rodents would not be tormenting people.

A couple staying in our hotel were befriended by a couple in a bar on the sea front in Fanabe. They just got chatting, buying drinks between themselves for a couple of hours. Our friends thought what a lovely couple and were very surprised when they suggested they visit their apartment nearby. They took them by car and whilst looking at the apartment they were told what a bargain it was and the show apartment was available to look round.
At this point they cottoned on to what was happening and left poste haste.

to get rid of the timeshare touts we just told them we had a council house, they soon leave you alone as you don't have collaterol.
I'm not a home owner, I don't have a partner and i'm here on holiday with my probation officer :)
My usual technique is to just totally blank them even if they walk alongside me for a little while. Once, in LA, a particularly persistent charmer kept walking alongside me while trying to guess my nationality. After getting no response, and as he was running out of nationalities, I turned to him with a straight face and said 'Martian!. He looked at me for a split second and said Weirdo! and walked off. It brightened my day up no end.
Sorry, I didn't realize there was a swear filter, I was just trying to relay what was said to me as politely as possible!
