Some time ago it was reported that the Goan Government were to recruit lifeguards for the beach. Many members including myself were sceptical of this at the time. We were wrong however, and they did recruit 129 individuals. Unfortunately only one one of them was a good enough swimmer to come up to the required standard. Most of them could not even swim the required distance in a swimming pool. They are now looking further and giving training.
Where else but Goa!!!

Makes interesting (although not surprising) reading. We were in Cavelossim for the whole of February 2004 and there were four drownings during that month, along with the body of a drowed fisherman being washed ashore. Very sad.
