We have just returned from our holiday in Salou booked through Air Tours in July 05. The brochure states half board rooms sleep 3 adults and some with 3 adults and 1 child or 2 adults 2 children. As we are a party of 2 adults 2 children we booked the family room and were charged a supplement of £84.00 for the room. On arrival at our 4* room I was totally shocked and what we had been allocated. A room with 2 single beds, a chair which converted to a bed and a camp bed which consisted of a metal frame with 3 pieces of foam tied together with a sheet to make a matteress. The 2 beds and chair bed where along the back wall and the camp bed was placed along the bottom then a desk leaving about 1/2 metre gap the length of the room which you had to walk sides way to get to the balcony. I immediatly went to reception to complain we had been given the wrong room and she said "Dont tell me you have paid for a family room and we dont have family rooms and we have been telling Air Tours for months." We spent the first night in the room (my 8 year old daughter fell trying to get the the bathroom during the night as there was no floor space to move) The next day I complained to the rep he confirmed there had been a mistake and there was no family rooms and he went away to sort it. He came back and said there was no other rooms available (they did SC rooms too) and no other accomadation available in the whole of Salou but head office said I could have my £84.00 back.
I declined the offer as I had paid over £500 deposit back in July 05 to secure the accomodation and wanted what I paid for so I completed a complaint form. I then spent the first full day of my holiday moving bed side tables etc onto the balcony so I could squeeze the 4 beds against the back wall so we at least had a safe gap to reach the bathroom. Surely I am entitiled to more than my £84.00 back, as soon as you walked in the room you had to sit or lie on a bed as there was no other room, the balcony only had 2 chairs (our request for 2 more was turned down) but with furniture and empty cases on there there was not much room either. On our departure day while waiting for our bus other families were arriving who had booked family room only to be squashed in like us. We have went half board a lot but have never paid extra for the same size room as everyone else and have always had 3 beds and 1 camp bed. Anyone else had problems like this?
