We gave our table waiter £5 on the 1st and last night. The bell boy had a £1 each time. We took a few small things with us for the maid eg sweets, sample size perfme etc & left them out ever few days with a note saying they were for her. I don't think there's hard & fast rules really

I remember we ordered 200 US Dollars in 1 dollar bills before we went.

On arrival I tend to give the bell boy 1 dollar per suitcase.

At the rep meeting the next day she advised that the maids and waiting staff are lowest paid and we really only need to tip them.
So we tended to leave the maid 2 or 3 dollars on the pillow each day and I must say we always came back to some terrific towel art, petals in the bathroom and a very well stocked fridge.

Waiters/waitresses we used to give 2 or 3 dollars for dinner. At breakfast you sometimes get a Mariachi band playing by your table and they expect a couple too.

Other than that, I'd give a dollar to the waitress in the evening entertainment area for the first couple of rounds and she was always very attentive after that and brought lots of popcorn.

Can't remember what we spent on tips over the 2 weeks but we certainly brought a fair few 1 dollar bills back. I'd say around 8 to 10 dollars per day.

When you hear the pittance the workers get paid (around 6 USD per day) it's remarkable they're all so cheerful.

we stayed at the gran bahia principe, last oct.
we stayed in the tulum section & tended to sit in the same section,of the dining room,so got to know the waiter really well,so we tipped him, every few days.when my husband sat at the actual bar,he tipped the barman.
we used to go to the same pool & there was only ever about 8 people, round it,it was great! so we used to tip,the towel lady & the barman there,as they really looked after us.
the maid got all our change, that we built up,over the fortnight, which was about £20.
we loved our stay here, you won't be disappointed :)

Thanks very much for replies! :D Will have to take this ito account when budgeting! Very excited to go now. My only problem is i work in a school so have to go in the summer when everything is so much more expensive, hence me beieng curious about tipping etc. Is there ltos to do on site at the gran bahia? My friend went and went on lot of excursions but she was luckily enought o go for a wedding with family so a lot of it was funded for her. Don't want to be bored but don't think i'll be able to afford the excursions.

Thanks
