Just wondered if tipping is like hear in the Uk where you can tip for a good service or not tip if you don't get a good service ?
Or is it like USA where tipping is virtually compulsory ,and if you don't know like I didn't ,the staff stand there doing some kind of cough ?
I just don't want to offend anyone and beleive that if you get a good service atip goes a long way.
Also if you tip how much is the going rate ??
Tipping is like over here, tip if you want to. I've been to Icmeler twice and on both occasion got excellent service everywhere I went and tipped accordingly.
you only tip for good service but i'd be very supprised if you did'nt get a good service where ever you go in turkey they just cant do enough for you

Only us brits get a hang up about tipping. If you receive good service then feel free. Beware some places put a service charge on the bill.so no tip is required.
Do you tip at the all-inclusive hotels
Most of the places I went to there, the service was less than great, I resented tipping anything at all...

I think its up to individual, if you feel you've had a good service it's your prerogative to tip or not.
staff in the USA have been known to follow people who haven't left a tip demanding that they do...
But the first time I went to USA Los Angeles ,I was unaware of the tipping.
When I didn't tip an AA worker for checking in my bags I got an unusual cough.
I felt embarassed as I didn't really know what he was implying or wanted.
It wasn't till a relative told me that tipping is expected out there.

Some good points raised here. My tuppence worth (no .. not the tip ) is that it is up to the individual. I have only encountered a few places where a service charge was included and even then I left a tip. I tend to think that if the service, food etc was good then a tip is the norm. If I'm at my poolside bar however I may give a tip after a couple of drinks i.e. not every time. Wages are not that good in Turkey and I know some waiters rely on the tips for the little 'extras' in life. If they go out of their way to make sure I have a good holiday then I don't mind acknowledging this in the form of a tip.

Hi carolB, where in turkey are you going....Gavin
Gavin
Is it appropriate to tip the driver if you have a private transfer arranged by the hotel - also what about the porter. Its an AI hotel which is new to me. Happy to tip for the service but don't want to make a bobo
