Hello there.
Does anyone know what the allowances are to bring Tobacco into Ireland? My other half usually buys a years supply of Samson and we have never been checked coming back in but this is our first time in Bulgaria and I don't want to take any chances.
Thanks
Thanks Baldur.
I must admit that I was surprised by the low amounts of tobacco & cigarettes that Irish Customs permit to be imported, legally, even from a full EU member state:
1kg smoking tobacco, against 3kg in the UK.
800 cigarettes, against 3,200 (UK Customs' recommended maximum) in the UK.
Hi, Another thing to remember. The local ciggies are so cheap about £5 per 200(Victory) that people tend to try and smuggle loads out of Bulgaria, however, over the past 2/3 years we have seen numerous stopped at customs going into Bourgas airport and had them confiscated.
The local ciggies are so cheap about £5 per 200(Victory)....
That was true last year - the tax increase this year has raised the price of Victory from 1.60Lv per 20 to 2.70Lv, so 200 will now cost just under £9.50.
