Thanks for the tips. The hockey is a definite (we are big fans) and the Leafs are my second NHL team (Blackhawks being first). Tickets may be a problem though, cheapest I have found for the Flyers game on the Tuesday of that week are $150 each (that's US dollars too) and those are nosebleed seats! I have yet to check out the schedules for other teams (apart from the Marlies who don't have a home game that week) But Guelph and other local towns have teams.

My other half has already found the Niagara tours (possibly with an overnight stop).

The Hockey Hall of Fame and Gretsky's Bar are also on the agenda.

Any more ideas welcome.

Thats along time in Toronto..theres not that much to see.

So an overnight in Niagara is a good way to break it up. Niagara is quite a fun place. Should be able to get a good falls view suite for very little too

Leafs Tickets have arrived. Hotel assure us that Niagara can be booled when we get there.

CN tower and Hockey Hall of Fame on the agenda. Now planning for the remaining days. Youngest needs time to buy new hockey kit as well.

Hi

See if you can find our review in this section of our stay in Toronto and Niagara, but to summarise:

Toronto, fantastic place, loved it. Use the trams, busses and underground to get around, its safe, frequent and cheap. Best buy a day pass for around $8.

Visit the cultuaral areas, such as China Town, Little Italy etc.

CN tower is a must, dont eat up there tho, too expensive

Pickle Barrel on Yonge Street and Baton Rouge excellent food

Toronto isnt cheap. Remember prices in shops are BEFORE tax. Alcohol tax is added to meals too! Think in total you pay around 15% tax

Hockey Hall of Fame was ok, nothing special, though you do get to have a go yourself.

Visit the Rogers centre next to the CN Tower for a tour

Do lots of walking!!! Take comfy shoes and warm clothes.

You will see lots of homeless on the streets, they wont hassle you but be warned.

Traffic lights bleep when its safe to cross with green man, and they bleep differently according to which crossing you are using (you'll find out what I mean)

I didnt once feel unsafe in Toronto, and the people very friendly, but obviously exercise same caution as you would in London. Actually, I found it much safer than London.

Wouldnt say the shopping is anything to write home about, nothing special and not really cheap

Use the underground PATH system, its huge, you'll get lost, but its warm and loads of shops and restaurants

We caught Greyhound bus to Niagara, think it was about $40 return. Takes 2 hours. If you go to Niagara, only stay there one night, its the most tacky place ive ever been to.

Would recommend the helicopter ride over the falls.

There is a nice Italian in Niagara, cant think where it was.... ummm. its on the sort of main street that runs behind and parallel to the road that goes past the falls. There was a Subway nearby.

Enjoy yourself! I loved Tornoto and would happily live there anyday. But if you find our post, must be around Dec2005 it will explain all in more detail of what we did.

Just noticed you're going for 8 days. There is a lot to see. I bought one of those AA city guides and it was very useful, the map was invaluable.

But yes, definately get bus to Niagara, stay overnight to see all the lights, and the erm... tack!!

I went to Toronto in September last year - 4 nights in Toronto and 2 at Niagara Falls. If we'd have know earlier we'd have booked an extra night at Niagara instead because we thought the area there was great.

We stayed at the Westin Harbour Castle with our room having views of the lake and the CN Tower, so couldn't complain! It was lovely being down at the lakeside as it was much quieter. We went to watch the Blue Man Group whilst we were there, did the Toronto Islands visit (so quiet and peaceful - can understand why people want to live there!), the obligatory shopping at Eaton Centre and lots of other walking. Also got on the hop-on hop-off bus for a good tour of the city.

We hired a car and drove to Niagara Falls where we stayed at the Sheraton on the Falls with Fallsview rooms overlooking the falls - we even had a little balcony too!!!

I loved Canada but don't think I could have stayed in Toronto for more than 4 nights. We also ate at 360 up the CN Tower and whilst it was expensive the food we had was fantastic - no complaints from us! Mind you, to top up the bill we did have 2 bottles of champagne!!
