Last year on this (and other) forums there seemed to be much concern about the amount of attacks on tourists in the Torrevieja area. It also seemed that all outlets had stopped taking travellers cheques (except at gunpoint). All in all it came across that as Benidorm was cleaned up, the surounding resorts were becoming the new work place for these undisirables.
With a new season started does anyone know if the situation has changed, my family and I will be jetting out for two weeks in August and it would be nice to hear from locals, of any early visitors about the present state of play. Should I pack my pistol with my rubber ring and knotted hankie ??
Hi we're going to Torreveja in July 2005 for 2 weeks. We are all 19, we know this is not a lively clubby area, but we wondered what is in the town and what there is to do there, for night and daytimes. If anyone has any links to websites with information this would be gratefuly appreciated. If anyone has any suggestions or comments we'd like to hear them! Thanks!
The town has a website
I'm sure you will enjoy your holiday to Torrevieja. There is lots to do and see here but it really depends on where your accommodation is and if you have access to transport (bus/taxi/car) - Torre is a large place and many suburbs are often advertised as being in Torre when actually they may be several km's away. It seems quite a lot of things are spread over a large area, so getting around may prove a problem. I can't offer you much advice about the night time activities as we are a couple with young children so I don't have much experience of nightclubs etc. However, although Torre is not in the same league as say Ibiza or Benidorm it does have it's share of nightclubs, bars and restaurants in or near the popular harbour area. If you are well heeled you might like to head for the casino or possibly see a flamenco dancing show?
Daytime activities include many blue flag beaches, most offering a beach bar, some with watersports including banana boats, jet ski etc., most with touts offering henna tattoos & massage. There are boat trips, a large fun fair, go kart track with quad bikes and an aqua park. A little further afield you will find the Rio Safari Park near Santa Pola - they have an animal show that includes a dancing elephant (no alcohol intake required to see it!), or go on a hot air balloon ride, play a round of golf (although it might be too hot for that in July), horse riding, or scuba diving. In addition to all that you can also plan a day trip to some of the highlights in Benidorm e.g. the theme park Terra Mitica which can be booked via any travel agent in Torre.
Hope this gives you some ideas! Enjoy your holiday.

did anybody see the travel programe on sky tonight regarding torrevieja we dont have sky ,is it true it has the biggest crime rate on the costa blanca, as we own property out there
Best wishes,Stephen.
I didn't see the programme mentioned, but Torrevieja has held that unfortunate reputation for a long time, blamed mainly on the high numbers of foreign nationals residing there illegally.
Any comments gratefully read........
If you can say where and when you are staying I could perhaps find out if there are decent restaurants or pubs nearby for you to go to.
Thanks for that........ We are actually going for a long weekend at the end of May. We are staying at a colleagues apartment at La Florida which I believe is a residential area popular with ex-pats. The nearest beach is Playa Flamenca. We have been told there are restaurants and shops within walking distance but would like to take a look a bit further afield too.
A little further afield and you will find the Flamenca Beach Commercial centre with loads more restaurants of every nationality! We like Chevaliers who serve French food and can be found on the lower level. Another favourite of ours is a fish restaurant at Via Park II called Atlantis who do beautiful haddock and chips along with other seafood delights. An evening with some Spanish style to it can be had at a restaurant in Punta Prima called Patio Andaluz. In true tourist trap tradition you can eat some decent food while watching flamenco dancers, be strummed in the interval by Spanish guitars and have your host mingle between the tables with a bottle of sherry? or something to pour straight from the bottle to your mouth. It's great fun! Also don't miss the cafe/patisserie at Punta Prima for some lovely coffee & cakes! Sorry, don't know it's name but you can see it from the N332 tucked behind the CajaMurcia bank.
As for shopping, well don't miss the Playa Flamenca street market on a Saturday (get in as early as you can to avoid the heat and the crowds) but apart from some small souvineer shops dotted around you will really be better heading into Torrevieja for that. Even better still have a day trip to Murcia or Alicante for some really good shopping. Hope you have a great time.
any help appreciated, thankyou
Budget £80,000 (less if possible)
1st floor 2 bedroom apartment
balcony
solarium on roof
close to & view of communal pool
within 3 km of beach
walking distance to shops, restaurants, bars etc
close to gold courses 8km
new build or fairly new
good rental potential
good investment
water park close by
option to go on day trips
A great place to buy on the Costa Blanca is Denia, but I am biased as I live here.
There are great restaurants, 15km of sandy beach, good mix of nationalities, nice pubs, 3 golf courses within 20 minutes, ferry to Ibiza and Majorca.
No package tour hotels so not packed with boozigans in the summer
Only 30 minutes to Benidorm if you want extra night life, water park, theme parks etc
Look at my website http://www.castleestates.com more expensive than Torrevieja but if you visit both you will understand why.
Beautiful area for holidays or living
Hi in July me and 5 of my girls mates are going to Torrevieja, just wondering what people can reccommend for us 2 do?
my nana has a villa here and me my mum n my boyfriend are going to stay there, we're looking for cheap flights and cheapest we can find are october £80 each return flight, we dont know what to expect though as my nana is ill and prefers quiet places miles away from anywhere and anyone, all i know is there is a communal pool and a big spanish supermarket nearby, what is there to do, are there any decent bars, clubs or places to go? and is there anywhere for my boyfriend to ride his bike?
Do you know where abouts the villa is ?
This is the second year running that we have been to Torrevieja - this time we stayed at the top end of the town at Residencial Europa, near the N332. While our appartment was about 25 mins walk to the beach we were handy for the centre of town and the new shopping and bar area near the main Carre Four supermarket.
The new designer Las Habernas shopping centre has just opened with about 60 designer shops at very reasonable prices. There is also the new "Ozone" entertainment area across the road from it which has restaurants, bars, multiplex cinema and 10-pin bowling. Prices here for food are very reasonable.
Having eaten out every night for nearly two weeks our favourite place was the chinese restaurant (Nun King i believe) a few doors down from the 24 hour shop - food was excellent, the staff were great with the children and a bottle of house wine was just over 3 Euros - YES, about £2.00 a bottle (and very drinkable)
If you visit the sea front make sure you have eaten and had a drink first as prices are expensive and the food is nothing special.
Our appartment was within walking distance of the Aquopolis waterpark which we visited twice - although it is expensive (about 18 Euros for adults aged 11 upwards! and 11 Euros for up to 10 year olds) you can get free child tickets sometimes with your shopping at the Carre Four supermarket. You also have to pay to park and for sunbeds as well. It is great fun but get there early.
Hope this helps to all travelling to this area.
Aquapolis was a great day out. Benidorm was only an hour drive as well so spent a few days there and visited Terra mitica, i thought it was a let down there was no shows on and was quite empty, it was also very big and you had to walk a long way just to get on to another ride and as it was a scorching day and no shade we found it hard work and left early but what we did see of it was not very impressive!
Would defiantly go back and i dont know why Torrevieja has such a bad name for as this holiday was defiantly one of my best and at half the cost of a package holiday.
I have heard about a place called Bar Street, has any one been or could someone give me directions?
Any info would be greatfully received.
