Thanks soooooooo much. Well I have found a one way flight on thurs 26th with thomas cook for £47!!! so that would be perfect!! IF THE DAMN PASSPORT ARRIVES!!! Also plenty with A1 for under £110 return. My mum said she may even consider coming with her at that price!! so that would resolve the flying at 16 without an adult issue.

However, just been on the passport thread on this site, and read a post about a lady in Scotland in exactly the same predicament, and she got her 16 years old first adult passport in NINE days from door to door, and therefore her son was able to go on holiday. So thats quite optimistic and that was only posted on July 9th so not long ago!!!! lets hope Peterborough passport office is as efficient as Glasgow!!

I darent get my hopes up, but perhaps someone will look down on me from above, I havent sinned for ages!!!!!

So glad you found cheap flights !! I will cross everything for you and hope the passport comes in time.

When we were in a rush for my step sons passport they kept saying we can't give a timescale and we got it within a week and that was this time off year

Think the more you call and pester them the more likely you are to get a person who will take ownership and get it done for you

Good luck !!!

I dont know if this may help (or make you more worried). There is an application tracking facility provided by IPS

https://www.passport.gov.uk/application_tracker_FORM.asp

Using this may put you at ease to know how far through the process the application is.

An update!!!

Passport office rang today to say it was under examination but they did not have the fee. GRRRRR The lady at the passport office put it in the envelope cos I watched her. They have LOST it!!!!!!!!!!!!
I paid again with debit card over the phone, so thats sorted, and cancelled the cheque.
Now we have to wait for it to be sent to issue, Manchester office will print it off and deliver it by securicor.
She wont have it by tomorrow but hopefully Mon Tues or Wed.

Once I have it need a cheap one way flight. Any ideas??

thomas cook on thurs 26th is the cheapest i have found so far at £67 + taxes = total £111 but looks like they dont take children under 18 unless travelling with an adult :( :( . http://www.xl.com might give you plenty of flexibility and take under 18,s but they look expensive at the moment . over £200 :( the other budget onur air looks like it only flys out fridays. looks like BA will take her wednesday but again £265 :(

Really sorry about your predicament. I always thought children had to have their own passports and thought this has been the case for many years. Can anyone advise on this please

Re my earlier post I've managed to find the answer myself to the question I asked!

Existing passports
Children already included in parents' passports can continue to travel on these passports until they reach the age of 16 or the passport expires. If the passport on which the child is included is replaced, a separate passport application would need to be made for the child. There is no facility to add a child to a passport after 5 October 1998.

Bit puzzled here. You say "Until the child reaches the age of 16" I understood that she had.

It is not an either/or situation.

The child reaches 16 OR passport expires - I read that as whichever comes first.
