I was at the Khalef in March
This hotel has had a refurb since I last stayed there 3 years ago and it is a nice hotel,it was quiet when I was there in March but when I visited friends there last week it was mainly Russians, very loud, will see what it's like when I go back on Sunday.
The beach is a short walk past the pool through the gardens,
half board is breakfast and evening meal, drinks at breakfast ie coffee, tea, friut juices are included but no drinks included with your evening meal, also there are no kettles in the rooms so I suggest you take a travel kettle tea bags, coffee, sugar etc, bottled water is 2 dinars from the hotel it's cheaper to buy water from the shops away from the hotel, you can get 3 bottles for 1 dinar..
There's a pizza place just past the pool prices are good, eating out is cheap and there are places to eat just outside the hotel.
Weather good in June starts to really warm up then
Enjoy your holiday
how far is monastir to the hotel?
and if i at 23.55 and land at 02.15 what time am i flying in english time as its the night of the world cup semi final
The transfer time from Monastir airport to the hotel is around 45 minutes depending on how many hotel you have to drop off at, Tusinian time is one hour ahead of UK time, enjoy your holiday - please read my hotel review - we have just returned from this hotel after 14 nights there
how is it best to take money out there? trav cheques? sterling, dinars?
Tunisia has a closed currency, so you can only get dinars once you are there. It is best to take cash and change it up as and when you need to as Tunisia is soooo cheap and you cannot bring any Tunisian dinars back out of the country when returning home. There are also plenty of cashpoint machines around that will also convert your english money into dinars for you. Just type in the amount you wish to draw out in english and it will give you the equivalent in dinars, a safer way of doing it. On landing at the airport there are also plenty of banks around to change up some money. The rate of return in Tunisia is set by the goverment so where ever you decide to change it up you will find it pretty much the same rate everywhere.
thanks didnt know that!! there was me going to take travler cheques and currency
Can I respectfully suggest to read the 'Hotel Reviews' that give you full details including Dinars - thanks
can anyone tell me if my laptop can pick up wireless connection in the hotel?? and how much it costs
BUT
If you walk out of the hotel to the main road, turn left and CROSS OVER the road, when you come to the roundabout after a few minutes keep walking on the same side pavement, once you pass the roundabout cross over the road again and you will see after about 200 yards on the left hand side a public internet cafe, very cheap and cheerful, but beware the keyboard layout is completely different to ours.
Enjoy you holiday - the internet cafe is only max of 10 mins walk from the hotel.
thanks for that info,
thanks for any reply.
There are no hairdryers or kettles in the rooms of the Tour Khalef. (I was told that there are no kettles in ANY hotel rooms in Tunisia, but I don't know if this is true or not). Officially you are not supposed to use your own travel kettle in the Tour Khalef, however as long as you keep it out of sight you won't have a problem - we always take one! You can buy coffee, sugar and milk there, but you'd be better off taking your favourite teabags with you.
The milk seems to be labled the same as ours - red tops for full cream, green for semi-skimmed and blue for skimmed. Stock up on yoghourts in the supermarket as well - they are lovely and very cheap - my favourite is apricot.
Main reason for a change is we can only go in October 2007 - hotter weather in Tunisia than Majorca / Ibiza in October? Let me know.
What do we want? 2 adults, a 15year old lad, 8year old lad, 6 year old girl and an 11 month old baby. The older Kids love being entertained by staff during the day and will dance all night at mini-disco! Whats the entertainment like?
Adults? Were not posh, Ill be happy with cheap beer and wine and good company , Kids clubs as an option during the day and the odd excursion if we need to.
Food - Luckily for us kids are not pizza n chips fiends but love digging into a paella and pulling shrimps and crabs apart? -
More opinions the better....im on the verge of booking but have a niggling doubt regard taking the 11 month old without knowing more.
I haven't stayed in the Tour Khalef but in both the Marhaba and the Marhaba Club, which are part of the same complex. You need to check out whether the hotel has a kids club but you shouldn't have any problems with the baby. There are plenty of excursions run by the tour operators or you can get out and about independently by train, local bus, taxi or louage (shared taxis), though I wouldn't recommend the Sahara trip until the children are quite a bit older, as there is a lot of travelling and early starts.
If you have any other specific questions please don't hesitate to ask.
