Just back from Salou on 31st May.I have to use a wheelchair as I can only hobble a few yards and me and hubby decided to go to Barcelona again, but by train this time(other times it was tours as I could climb bus steps then ).We got to the station in Salou and the ticket officer assured us it would only be a small step onto the train, but when it came there is one small step but then a very large one after it.To say I fell onto the train is an under statement and had to be helped to my feet by other kind passengers.Hubby had to carry the wheelchair up the steps .The train was packed but luckily for me there was a pull down seat vacant near the door and I sat on it but hubby had to stand all the way, which is an hour and a half journey. When we arrived at the central Barcelona station we found to our horror there wasn't
a lift just 3 flights of stairs to get out of it, so again helped by people I had to climb them and hubby had to haul the wheelchair up them .While he was carrying the wheelchair up the steps he felt someone bump into him and then found his wallet missing when he got to the top, luckily they didn't get much as the money was in a wallet around his neck so the only got 8 euros which was change from paying for the train tickets which cost 12 euros . Disabled people travelling by train to Barcelons beware of these problems as it took me a full day to recover and if you are totally reliant on a wheelchair it is impossible.
I'm sorry you had such a bad experience Serena but I'm very pleased you thought to share it. This kind of knowledge is just what disabled travellers need. Thank you.
